Transmission safety switch which allows recognizes the gear selector switch is in the P position is faulty/defective. Defective switch is a safety concern as will not allow vehicles to completely turn off. Mazda is aware of the problem and has issued a maintenance bulletin on many affected 2013 and 2014 model vehicles. This started happening randomly 3 years ago, but has progressed to 3-4 times per week.
When turning the car off, the car doesn't turn off all the way and drains the battery.. I had to buy a new battery and ended up getting having to have my car towed in. Mazda issued a service bulletin for this in 2015 (for 2013 models) and updated in 2016 to include 2014 models: ep.yimg.com/ty/cdn/yhst-24809172479195/kdy0-46-040.pdf. the warning lights all come one while you are driving. Very scary

When placing the shifter in park and turning the car off, the engine shuts off but not the electronics. When returning to the car, it may not start due to drained battery. On line reports show many Mazda have this problem.
There is a faulty sensor issue with Mazda Cx-5 circa 2014 where it doesn't register the car is in park and thus the electronic on/off won't turn the car off properly. It turns the engine off but leaves the rest of the electrical system on and can lead to many dead battery situations. Here are several forums detailing the situation: Https://www.carcomplaints.com/Mazda/Cx-5/2014/electrical/will_not_completely_shut_down.shtml https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-T49115_ds799849 this can lead to unsafe conditions stranding people with a dead car through a faulty part. Imagine, someone needing to escape the California wildfire or evacuate only to be blocked by this issue.
Ignition does not turn off when pressing the start/stop button. Mine has been doing this for about a year periodically. It was corrected by placing it in park with slight added force. It's now escalated to the point where the force is becoming excessive and may damage other components. The problem and fix is listed here. Https://Mazda.oemdtc.com/665/ignition-does-not-turn-off-when-pressing-startstop-button-2013-2014-Mazda if you search in google '2014 Mazda Cx-5 ignition stays on' you'll see it's a common issue. When part kdy0-46-040 is malfunctioning you are unable to secure your car. The doors will not lock, the alarm will not arm and the battery continues to drain if you do not manually turn off the radio.
The car accessories stay on after turning the car off. This makes the car battery run down. Also leaves the car in a mode where someone could possibly steal it easier. Once this started happening it randomly occurs daily.
My wife complained about how she tried to accelerate and it didn't work one random time while she was driving. I took it around the neighborhood to test it out. I wasn't even out of my block before the incident happened. I was in the middle of a turn and everything just stopped. I was going less than 10 mph when it happened. Several lights came on on the dashboard. The traction control light, the at light, the TPMS light, and the check engine light. Something bad happened and this could have killed someone had it happened on the highway. I turned the car off and on and now only the check engine light is on. I was able to drive it again at that point.
Vehicle sometimes does not completely shut-off when shifting into "park" and pressing 'start/off' button. Accessory functions remain 'on'. warning light states "please shift into 'park'". sometimes requires multiple attempts shifting out of and back into 'park' before all systems shutdown when pressing 'start/off' button. Based on numerous other drivers having similar issues, appears to be problem with the shifter switch (part# kdy046040). Very irritating having to deal with this problem...Mazda needs to do recall on this, imo!
Replaced battery January 29, 2019. Battery not holding a charge it goes completely dead after not driving one day. There is no obvious cause as to why the battery is drained dead no lights on no dash lights no nothing indicating that the battery should go dead. Upon checking the internet there have been many other instances where this problem has also happened with this year make and model. Problem may lie within the Mazda electrical system itself and hard for the manufacture dealer or car owner to identify.
When the ignition button is pressed to shut the car off it stops the engine but the radio stays on and the doors cannot be locked. The shifter is in park when this occurs. Forced to leave vehicle unlocked and "on". this happens 3-4 times per week.
If anyone has experienced the gear shifter issue with their 2014 Mazda Cx-5, please call Mazda directly and make a complaint. The vehicle does not power off when you put it in park. The car thinks it is still in drive, therefore accessory power stays on and thus causing the battery to die when you don't realize that the car was still in the whole time. If enough people react/make complaints then maybe we can get this issue in for a recall. If you've already paid for it to be fixed out of pocket then you could get reimbursed if it does get recalled. So please call. This is the Mazda customer service number. 800-222-5500. No one should have to pay for an issue that isnt their fault.
The contact owns a 2014 Mazda Cx-5. after the contact shifted into the drive position, the vehicle rolled backwards and would not drive forward. Also, the vehicle would not shut off when the engine power button was pressed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer (koeppel Mazda, 7712 northern blvd, queens, NY) where it was diagnosed that the shifter was faulty. The shifter was replaced, but the contact still experienced failures with the vehicle powering off. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 45,762.
When the car is stationary and in park the engine doesn't completely shut down, the radio anddash lights stay on. Also the doors do not lock because the car will beep consistentlyand I fear the battery may die. I have to move the car in and out of park and then move the gear shift left and right quickly multiple times and then maybe it will cut offcompletely. Sometimes it takes me up to 10 minutes and 8-10 tries of moving my car out of park and back to park and move the gear shift left and right to get my car to shut off completely. I know the problem is the gear shifter. There is a sensor that tells it when it's in park, and in my car it stopped working. There should have been a re-call because according to several forums there have been many complaints regarding this specific issue with this Mazda Cx-5 make and model.
Will not shut down when ignition is shut off have to make several attemps at reatarting to shut down and remote does not react propperly in opening and closing on going know for 6 months todays date 10-04-18 car is parked
Vehicle will not shut off completely when the start/off button is pushed. Accessories stay on. I see other complaints regarding this same problem to the shift switch part #kdy0-46-040. Have to jiggle shifter 10 to 15 times to get it to shut off.
