I have a 2007 Mazda 6 and unfortunately recently after I turned on the seat warmer I smelled burning leather. I then felt a burning sensation on my thigh. I quickly moved away then noticed that my seat was on fire. The seat warmer burnt a whole in the seat. The threads looked like the blazing wick on a lit candle. A red glare was seen under the rest of the seat. I contacted Mazda and was told that its the age of the vehicle, its wear and tear and therefore its customer cost to repair. The associate didn't even bother to look at the damage. He said that he could give me an estimate of how much it would cost for the repairs. Customer pay. This is very serious because if I had no sensation in my thighs I could have ended up with a third degree burn. Also, this is not an isolated incident as evidenced by reports on the internet including Mazda's website. forum.Mazda.club.com/element/electrical "(pic) help!! seat heater burns a hole through my leather seat". injury: I used a cold compress on my thigh immediately, and therefore currently do not have any visible marks on my thigh.
