NHTSA — Engine Problems

CarComplaints.com Seal Of Pretty Good

CarComplaints.com Notes: The MAZDA6 was redesigned for the 2009 model year. Like any first-year product, it has a few growing pains – most notably a shiny, melting dashboard that can blind the driver.

Engine overheated while driving in a straight line in traffic at low speed with temperature in the 80's. the engine block cracked as a result. The engine and the complete cooling fan assembly had to be replaced. The engine temperature had risen high on several occasions before this, while idling, driving at low speeds, and driving at moderate and highway speeds, temperatures ranging from 50's to 90's. when the overheating occurred the air conditioning also failed to function properly. I had complained to the dealership about this issue and they claimed it was a fuse. They replaced the fuse, but it did not resolve the issue.

The contact owns a 2009 Mazda 6. while driving 20 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming the engine compartment and the steering wheel became difficult to turn without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine crossmember was corroded and cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer (ralph thayer Mazda, 34601 Plymouth rd, livonia, mi 48150, (734) 425-5400) was contacted to schedule an appointment for a second diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The manufacturer informed the contact that she could be reimbursed if she got the vehicle repaired. The failure mileage was 132,000.

Was driving vehicle at 45 mile per hour. Suddenly noticed steering wheel was off center. I did not hit a pothole or any other obstructions on the road. Steering became very loose and vehicle hard to steer. When braking the vehicle started to make squealing sound and pulled to one side. Suspension became very harsh even on good surface road.. this is a catastrophic failure with no warning. Fortunately was able to get vehicle to auto repair center without getting into accident. Auto repair facility examined vehicle and showed me that engine cradle - subframe had rusted thought and broke. This caused the engine to go off center which caused the braking, steering, and suspension issues. Auto repair facility told me the vehicle was not safe to drive and made me sign a waiver to release the vehicle.

My son was driving my car to get food when the car lost control of steering and veered right towards the curb. His steering was straight but car was difficult to control. Thankfully he was only going 25 mph. We took it to auto shop and was told engine cradle/subframe had rusted throughout. Very expensive repair. We also own a second 09 Mazda 6 that we now worry about and will get looked at.

Engine cradle/crossmember is severely deteriorated on the passenger side. Excessive rust and holes in the structure. My concern is a safety issue in driving the car and having it stay together.

I went for an oil change and found out that the frame that holds the engine in place was completely rotted out and that my engine could fall out at any given time. Also, because of the rot, the rod that should be attached to the steering was not attached because the bolts had nothing to adhere to. This could have resulted in me driving with my daughter and losing my steering and possibly getting in a fatal accident. The car is in the shop as it is not able to be driven per my mechanic for safety reasons as well as failing inspection fro this. Please contact me as soon as possible as I do not have any transportation and I work full time. I can be reached at [xxx]. or my mechanic at hometowne auto, [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I bought a used car with 2 dashboard light tmps & engine the dealer give me extra warranty but never been repair furthermore I find out by myself a recall for the outer door handles after the door open while I driving in the express way this happened to my youngest daughter; and in other 2 incidents the car do not respond with the appropriate speed causing me a big chance of accident afterwards it is happened again so due to other several mechanic problems and for security I have to decided to return the car now I have no money no car and a big problem I am having hardly time tried to summit my concerns because I think the dealers are responsible for sale security cars before the sale but apparently the laws are in the dealers side as a consumer I hope maybe some one can see how this irresponsible dealers play with the consumers safety. I pay over $3,000 in repairs by my self and I have been around 90 days with out car and all this problems in a period of time of 26 months plus my payments to the dealer that was $460,00 a month this issue start on 12-6-13 to 02-26-16 after the car need a new repair at cost of $3,000 so in the reality this company was negligent when they fail to properly repair the car since the beginning they just pretend to fixed but wasn't. I want to thank you for your time.

I bought my Mazda 6, year 2009, brand new from a Mazda dealer in Virginia. Some time ago, while I was driving it at approximately. 30 mph in heavy traffic on one of the main roads, I then turned on the left turn signal as I needed to make a left turn at the very next light. Suddenly, the engine died completely and the car stopped in the middle of the traffic. Luckily I was not hit by the drivers behind me. I was able to put the gear in park, start the engine again and drive the car home. I then called the Mazda dealer (where I had bought the car) and I immediately made an appointment to have the car checked. To my greatest disappointment, the Mazda dealership told me there was nothing wrong with my car and they could not find the cause of the problem I had on the road, when the engine died while I was driving my car. A few months later a similar problem happened again and the Mazda dealer could not find any problem with it at that time either. Now Mazda has a recall for Mazda 6, 2010-2012 only, but it's for the same problem with the spider's webs and possible risk of cracks in the fuel tank, with a risk of a fire. I'm concerned the year 2009 is not included in the recall since the same problem appeared in the earlier recall.
