MAZDA6 Touring 2.5L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 84,000 miles

The car all of a sudden was making noises and jerking while driving to work on the freeway with some traffic. It was bad and sounded like clanking and clunking. I decided since the car still looked new to just have the local Mazda dealer in Temecula look at it. They said that we needed a new transmission and of course our extended warranty went out on time before mileage. Hello Mazda was helpful in getting the transmission faster and saved me a little money, but it still cost over $5,300.00.

It ran good for a little over 3,00 miles. I will make another post because that new transmission went out after just 4,000 miles.

MAZDA6 Tour

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

2015 Mazda6 that is well-maintained, my first car fully owned for 6.5 years and there's only 68,000 miles on it. I'm so picky with the treatment of my car that I do the oil change myself and have only personally hand-washed my car. While driving on a local road, the transmission started making scraping and grinding noises. Pulled over to residential road and tested - the transmission would slip gears enough that it would even go to parking mode.

I had it towed to the dealership who confirmed that the transmission gave out - internal parts were damaged. Called Mazda Corporate who flat out told me they couldn't help me because it is out of warranty. The dealership quoted me $5000+ for a full replacement. Why would any sane person spend that much to replace a transmission that lasts less than 70k miles??

Very disappointed in how Mazda Corp handled the situation. Why forgo the long run growth for a trivial matter like this? Sadly, everyone involved loses because now I have no car unless I fork out $5000 for an unreliable transmission and Mazda just failed to protect their reputation amongst my family and friends. I no longer have confidence in Mazda treating their customers well and all my friends and family are giving me crap for buying Mazda. I really liked Mazda too with their beautiful design and fun drive, but they've just lost a loyal customer and many more potential ones.

Appreciate if anybody has any ideas on how to recover from this situation?

Update from Dec 3, 2021: UPDATE: While it looks like Mazda Corporate doesn't budge when contacted directly, it appears they may do something about your situation if your dealer's service advisor reaches out to them on your behalf. Two weeks after my Mazda6 was towed to the dealership, Mazda Corporate and the dealership reached out to me with an update: Mazda is offering to replace the transmission with a factory re-manufactured one for $500 total out of my pocket but it would take until January 2022 to receive the part. I accepted it as this is actually reasonable and I'm relieved that Mazda actually does care about its customers. That being said, this could have been a less traumatic experience that I hope Mazda improve on in the future. I'll update again when the car transmission gets fixed.

Update from Feb 3, 2022: My transmission was fixed for the aforementioned price. Thank you Puente Hills dealership for taking hold of the situation and fighting for the customer. Happy how it turned out.

MAZDA6 Gt Tech 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 6,600 miles

I can't believe that the computer/electrical issues went awry to the point that it fried the transmission. Although covered under warranty, it makes me apprehensive at keeping this car long term (beyond uts warranty).
