An SUV crashed into an apple store in Hingham Mass. The driver told police his foot became stuck to the gas pedal. More likely his foot became hooked under the brake pedal as he tried to quickly shift his foot from the gas pedal up and to the left onto the brake pedal. This has happened to me several times after accelerating and then having to make a 'panic' stop. I had to quickly wiggle-foot from under to the top of the brake pedal. Brake pedals should be changed from a T shaped to a 7 shaped configuration. This would eliminate the hook. T configuration-the 'stem' is attached under the center of the brake pedal 7 configuration-the 'stem' is attached under the right edge of the brake pedal

The contact owns a 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by switching to the park position. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, but the contact was unaware of the diagnosis. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 37,000.

I was driving at 45 mph and applied the brake to stop. The engine revved to 2,000 RPM. I was able to stop with very hard braking using both feet. The engine continue revving at 2,000 RPM even after the car had stopped. I placed the transmission in neutral and the engine revved even faster. The engine did not slow down until I turned off the ignition. After leaving the engine off for around two minutes, I restarted the engine and it resumed running at around 500 RPM. My 23 year old son was seated next to me and verified that nothing was touching the accelerator while the engine was revving at 2,000 RPM and that both of my feet were on the brake. The engine has revved when I applied the brake at least seven other times; however, the revving stopped after one or two seconds. I have taken the car to a Ford dealer three times for this problem; however, they have not been able to find the cause of the problem.

My wife was driving around 25 mph and less than one mile from our house. When she applied the brakes to stop at a stop sign the engine revved up. I was riding with her and observed the engine rev to around 2,500 RPM before slowing down. I also observed that her right foot was on the brake and that nothing was touching the accelerator. The cruise control had not been turned on. This was at least the fourth time this year that the engine revved up when the brakes were applied. The dealer could not find the problem and the engine did not rev while the dealer was testing the car.
