Bought this car from Edmonton, AB. BRAND NEW. Took it to Red Deer, AB. for the issue, check engine light was on and when cold the engine would rev to 2500 RPM and stay there. We were going on a trip to Vancouver, B.C. and I knew what the problem was, (A.I.C. Air Idle Control) and the fact that it would not be an issue but the car is under warranty. Booked the car in over the phone, appointment the next day, all was fine. Got there and was told that if warranty doesn't cover it there was a $50 charge to turn the "Check Engine" dumby light off! I reply by simply saying the car is fully under warranty and just replace the part that made the light come on. The service advisor repeated her earlier statement. At this point I figured the car was under warranty no biggie! An hour later (I was happy with the fast turn-around) and the service manager comes out. Stating that they turned off the light and it WAS the AIC, but they could not make the part repeat the fault. I told him that it only does it when cold. He basically ignored me and said they could clean it for $150 plus the $50 for turning off the check engine light. I told him with more vigour in my voice that the car is fully under warranty and to replace the part. He denied the warranty, and said that if they can not make the problem repeat when they have it, they can not replace the part even with the evidence of the light being on. Of course I was furious and trying to keep my temper under control and keep my voice in check. We bantered back and forth and his final word was..."Sorry I couldn't have told you what you wanted to hear." and turn around and walked away! We paid for a service for a car under warranty!!!!! I was not happy, and the next morning (12 hours after walking out of the dealership) the check engine light came on and it was revving up to 2500 RPM again. Once warmed up it was fine, So drove to Vancouver. The problem continued and got worse, now the engine idled far too low when warm and was almost stalling. Took it to Vancouver dealership. And got the exact same song and dance. Could not believe it, they would not stand behind their warranty. Drove home, and took it back to the Red Deer dealership. I would not let them look at the car until they would say that yes the part would be replaced under warranty. The service manager simply stated "I am sorry but that is not going to be possible." I brought car home and sprayed a whole can of foaming throttle body cleaner in it and let it sit. And the problem still exists. It is now below zero and the problem has gone away! Car is paid off in 6 months and it is GONE! Mitsubishi MAY SEEM to have the best warranty but they do NOT stand behind it!!
