Purchased 2000 Chrysler Voyager minivan from david stanley Dodge in midwest city, ok. On September 22, 2005, the vehicle caught on fire in the inside of the vehicle, in the rear near the speaker compartment. Luckily the fire extinguished itself and no further damage to the vehicle other than the speaker and melting of wires around speaker. No injuries. Investigated vehicle fires on similar vehicles and found the 2001 and 2002 Chrysler/Dodge minivans were recalled for fire stemming from a manufacturing defect where the on certain mini vans, condensation from the instrument panel air conditioning ducts may drop through vent holes in the top of the radio and result in a short circuit that subsequently sends direct current to the rear speakers. (directly from recall notice) the recall notice was NHTSA campaign id number : 04V531000 obviously what occurred with my van is exactly as described in this recall, the air conditioning unit was running and also the radio was turned on however my vehicle was not recalled due to this defect. When I took the vehicle to david stanley Dodge located at 7609 SE 29th street, midwest city, ok 73110 (405)737-3700 "nick" was my service advisor. Although nick was helpful, they contacted Chrysler and denied any claim or responsibility and would not even look at the vehicle to ensure its safety! I now feel unsafe driving this vehicle for further problems. Thank you for you time in this matter!
