Already replaced the hazard switch and still have the very annoying ticking noise. Never want to use my blinkers! A friend of mine who restores cars and has been in the car business forever said it's more than likely the twilight sentinel module or aka daytime running light sensor. They are $20 at local autoparts store... no idea how easy to replace. Hopefully it works!

The ticking was pretty annoying, but a simple search on Google yielded about a dozen people having made videos or tutorials about how to fix the problem. Took me about 20 minutes, $5 for a tube of dielectric grease, and the clicking was gone. My brother has a 2001 Grand Am and put up with the issue for three years before I told him how easy it was to fix.

I have had the same blinker-tick going on for at least 2 years now. It does it on and off. When I turn the blinker on & it is already making the noise at a fast-pace, it sounds normal. As soon as the blinker is done, it goes back to blinking like crazy! It does not affect the lights or hazards on my vehicle. The blinkers/hazards still function completely normal. It is just the sound. I can go for months without hearing it, then it starts doing it out of no where.

For me, there is no point in fixing it. I just ignore it & tell my kids to do the same. LOL. They always ask, "Mom, why is the car doing that?" I don't know & I don't care as long as it works!

My car started ticking in the dash board about a year ago and it has been so annoying but it doesn't do it all the time so when I asked the mechanic he said not to worry about it. I'm not sure how true that is?!

GUESS I AM NOT THE FIRST ONE TO BE ANNOYED BY THE ERRATIC ANNOYING TICKING COMING FROM MY DASH!!!! I BELIEVE IT IS THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH. MY SOLUTION IS PUSH THE CAR OFF A BRIDGE BECAUSE IT IS THAT ANNOYING!!! ANOTHER THING GM HAS TO OFFER, MORE SERVICE FEES!!!!

Grand Am 4c

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

Hello!

I own a 2003 Grand Am. I was approaching the end of a long drive way and I put my "directional" on, preparing to stop and go out on the main road. The dash started buzzing continuously and the engine stalled.

This happens whenever I am either standing still and put the Turn signal on or when I am going very slowly and turn the signal on.

It is very difficult to start after this happens. The turn signal must be off and if the dash is still Buzzing, it will not start at all.

It does not happen when I am at high speed and turn signal on.

What is going on? Can this relay cause my engine to stall every time? I have it at the mechanics now.

My Dad bought this car for me in February 2006. Four days after we bought the car, a guy pulled out in front of me and I hit him. Everything was repaired. Later that year, I started hearing a ticking noise off and on that sounded like the blinker going at a radid pace. I just thought it was something caused by the wreck and haven't really had the money to go to a dealership to have the problem diagnosed. Well, I'm glad I found this website, because now I know I'm not the only on being annoyed by this weird problem! And now I know what it is and how to fix it (hopefully!).

Same problem everyone seems to have, the continuous annoying clicking coming from the hazard light area in the dash every time the turn signals are used (or even when they are not). My friend had a wrecked Grand Am, that I was able to take the multi-function switch out of and put in my car. This fixed the problem for about three months, but it came back again this winter leading me to believe this problem lies deeper in the electrical system than we want to believe. If anyone decides to take this route and change their multi-function switch, DON'T pay to have this done by someone else. It literally takes 10 minutes to do! Just take the cover off the steering column and take a screw out of the top and bottom, and the whole thing slides right out. I really hope someone can find the actual origin of this problem!

The car dealership found out that it was related to the hazard signals so they did cover it under a warranty.. they had said that it was wearing out the hazard lights which is something that the car has to have. So according to them it was the hazard light problem that if I didn't get it fixed than it wouldn't have any hazard lights.

Ticking in the dashboard. Contacted GM, but not on the recall list. Only up to year 2000. t It was totally annoying, erratic ticking for over 2 weeks now. My husband found an article on the internet about fixing that problem. It suggested you remove the signal switch from the dash. Remove the cover & clean the connections with q-tips & rubbing alcohol. Then replace. My husband tried this last night and it took him approximately 90 minutes, but IT WORKED !! No more ticking and it didn't cost a cent. Hope this will help others.

I've had my car for about 2 years and it's had this clicking in the dash. I replaced the factory radio and it seemed to stop for a while. Well it started up again. My car battery was going dead due to the relay was drawing power with or without the car being on. My boyfriend took the dash apart and removed the hazard relay. The clicking stopped. I currently have no hazard's or blinkers, but I called the local dealer and this can be replaced for about $25.00. Hopefully that will be it.... crossing my fingers.

I KEEP GETTING THE TICKING NOISE IN MY DASH. I READ SOMEWHERE IT WAS THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. VERY EASY TO REPLACE. DONT PAY ANYONE TO DO IT. IT IS JUST A COUPLE OF SCREWS AND IS EASY TO GET TO. BUY A BOOK AND THE PARTS FOR AROUND $100 TOTAL. THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM.

Before I even purchased the car, there was a ticking in the dashboard and they told me that I would have it fixed upon delivery, and they never did, but it sounds like the turning signal in your dashboard when your turning signal isnt on, but it sounds all erratic, and you dont have to be doing anything specific to get it to start or stop ticking, it just does it whenever it feels like it, and its really annoying. It was recalled by GM for the 2000 model
