Mechanic was inspecting other issues and noticed the rear wheels were chunky and scrapy when spinning. We had noticed some increased road noise but assumed it was related to tires. He told us what it would cost to fix, but I'm going to repair it myself. Subaru has issues a TSB for the brake backing plate not being manufacturer properly, which causes the wheel bearing to not be perfectly square in the bore, leading to premature failure. They have updates the backing plate. Moog hubs are $150 each, while the backing plates from Subaru are $90 each. Removing hubs can either be a total nightmare or go pretty smoothly, depending on how rusted in they are.
