dcm failure, killed 2, new batteries 1 after 14 mos & 1 mo
Last February (2025) on the day we went to pick up our newly purchased 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, the dealer had to replace the dead battery before we could drive it home. 13 months later, after sitting in our driveway and not being driven for a month, the battery died again. We replaced it with a new battery in April 2026 for $275. Two months later, that new battery was dead again. We took it to a mechanic who charged us $175 and said it was a DCM issue a Subaru dealer would have to fix. We took it to Sommers Subaru in Mequon, WI and they said the same, the DCM has to be replaced for $1,371. I discovered a class action lawsuit against Subaru for known DCM issues causing parasitic battery drain on the year and model, however, they only repaired it if the car had less than 45,000 miles, or was less than 4 years old. I contacted Subaru customer service and they refused to give any concessions.
