Seat occupancy sensor does not register adult human male, gets tripped if cell phon E is in proximity to the passenger in the front passenger seat. Front airbag is therefore off and will not go off in case of accident. This occurs if the front passenger has a laptop or cellphone. Upon inspection by dealership I was told that the sensor is broken but due to water damage which has not happened - if a damp user is enough to cause damage to sensor I believe Subaru is purposefully releasing poorly designed and engineered parts. This issues first appeared in 2017 and was intermittent and is not occurring every time a passenger rides with me.

Recall in other Impreza in same year model, but not mine specifically. Same issue occurs with airbag occupancy sensor in passenger seat. Airbag light comes on with any amount of weight in passenger seat, airbag however does not turn on. Stays off with passenger in seat. This was recalled in many other 2012-2014 Impreza. Subaru confirmed that passenger occupancy in my Impreza is same part as occupany sensor recalled in other Impreza. I was sold this car by an authorized dealer with this issue (not the company listed on the receipts provided). Had to pay to get it fixed for inspection. Have to replace seat bottom, almost $700 for seat alone. This is dangerous and unfair. Subaru acknowledged the problem by giving me $500 goodwill repair certificate, but not full price of repair even though this has been recalled in many other vehicles.

Passenger side airbag disabled because the under seat sensor is faulty in 2013 Subaru Impreza. The dealer charged me $154.95 just to read the code to explain the fault. Codes B1760 and B1761 indicate the "sensor mat is abnormal." Tech recommends to replace the passenger seat bottom. The issue is that this costs $1181.85 to replace. Subaru should issue a recall on this model because many of us are putting our passengers at unreasonable risk due to a faulty sensor installed by Subaru. The cost to replace it is extortionate. I love my car and I hope that Subaru will do the right thing and help restore my trust in their safety record.

The passenger side occupant detection system has failed. When someone sits in the passenger seat the airbag is not activated and the airbag warning light comes on. This seems to be a common complaint.

Sometimes while I'm driving and when a person is in the passenger seat the air bag randomly turns off. Also twice the seat belt alarm has sounded while I'm driving and non one is in the passenger seat. I had the issue checked out at the dealer today and the sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced at a $800 plus cost to me. I understand this is the same sensor that was recalled on the 2012 models.

Takata recall - I purchased my car used from a dealership in May 2018 and almost immediately the airbag light began to malfunction. The airbag light will shut off regardless of whether a purse, backpack or person is sitting in the passenger seat. In some cases there are no electronics, others there are. It can also shut off if someone sits in the car with wet clothing (after a rain storm or after swimming). This is extremely dangerous and not acceptable that this has not been addressed as a recall issue. This vehicle was manufactured in 2012, but is a 2013 model. With the exact same airbag and seat features as 2011-2012 Subaru with recalls issued, this is extremely negligent on Subaru's part. I should not have to make passengers sit in the back seat. This is my first Subaru, based on friend recommendations, but it is highly unlikely I would buy another due to the lack of responsibility taken by Subaru to repair this extremely dangerous defect. I believed that Subaru took pride in making safety a number one priority with their vehicles, but no longer believe that to be the case. I also don't believe that spending $1,100 on a replacement seat, with no guarantee of this fixing the problem, should be my out of pocket expense. Please issue a recall and prove you are the reputable company I believed you to be.

Complaint regarding: Subaru passenger-airbag occupant detection system (ods). Passenger airbag signal turns on and off unexpectedly during the following circumstances: Passenger in the seat and the car is stationary, no passenger in the seat and the car is stationary, passenger in the seat when car is in motion in the street, passenger in the seat when car is in motion on the highway, no passenger is in the seat and car is in motion in the street and highway. Passenger seat was not wet at any time. Laptop and cell phone was on the seat (backpack or passenger lap), or in close proximity in most incidents. Any passenger occupant has always been an adult meeting the state and federal safety regulations. Resource to explain concern in greater detail. And to express deep concern that the Impreza 2012 sensor recall was not extended to the Impreza 2013 year: Https://www.caranddriver.com/news/A15353278/Subaru-recalls-32000-Imprezas-for-airbag-sensors/ resource for Impreza 2012 and 2013 ods mechanism: Https://www.stanleysubaru.com/blog/2012/August/6/how-does-the-occupant-detection-system-ods-work-in-my-Subaru.htm

Passenger air bag does not register as 'on' when a passenger is present. Even a 15 pound backpack will cause the vehicle to show that the passenger airbag is off. It never comes on. It's gotten to the point where I will not allow people to ride in the front of my car with me, because I am worried they may be seriously injured in case of an accident. Why have such a spacious vehicle if its occupants aren't safe" also, the recalled sensor in the 2012 Impreza cars is the same technology in the 2013 models. Why has this not been taken care of"

Warning lamps for stability control air bag randomly light up on my dash board panel. The passenger air bag will also switch to off even when a passer is sitting in the seat or the passenger seat belt warning sound will go off if a small object is placed on the seat. My mechanic can't find the issue as I cannot recreate the circumstances that cause the lamps to switch on or the warning siren to chime. Computer readings do not return any "codes" if the lamps aren't on.

To start off I have an extended warranty on my vehicle felt my clutch starting to shift they told me I needed a new clutch flywheel and throttle bearing. Took it to a independent repair shop. They replaced the throttle bearing which was completely warped clutch was good but replaced anyway because at that point why not the entire transmission was out. Called Subaru nothing was done. Also just got into an accident vehicle was totaled and my airbags did not inflate.

I've been having issues with the passenger airbag light for years. I have brought it into the dealership many times over the course of 4 years and they cannot reproduce it, and often state that there is no record of others reporting this problem. When I have a passenger in the seat, the car doesnt register them and the airbag is turned off. Whether the seat is damp or bone dry, moving or not, it still fails most of the time, which is very worrisome. While the 2012 model have been recalled, the 2013 has not, despite the fact that they use the same exact technology. This has made me unlikely to buy another Subaru in the future, because it is a very dangerous and serious issue. The 2012 was recalled, please recall the 2013 also before someone dies or has a serious injury!

I have been having airbag problems with the passenger seat. Whenever there is a passenger sitting, the amber indicator light is in the 'off' position and there is a red airbag light on the dashboard. It doesn't matter if the passenger is dry or damp, if the car is stationary or driving on the street/highway. Sometimes, when there is no passenger and I place my cell phone on the seat, the airbag indicator light turns on as if there is a passenger. This is a serious issue in case of an accident. Nice to know that Subaru cares so much about 'safety'. the 2012 was recalled, please recall the 2013 also before someone dies or has a serious injury!

I really feel my 2013 Impreza should fall into the takata recall. I made sure to check my vehicle didn't qualify, but it appears to be doing similar things presented for those currently in the recall. The first time I have proof of my airbag indicator light was 7.4.2016 at 45,896 miles. At the time, I was the only person in the vehicle. When I went to the local Subaru dealer to have it checked, they said they couldn't check it unless the light was lit (which it was not) and suggested the seat might have been wet. Most recently, I have had a front passenger in my vehicle and the indicator light has come on and the air bag light switched to off at least 3 times in the last two weeks. I purchased my Subaru for the safety and this is a huge issue if the airbag does not deploy if for some reason I get into an accident. Just continuing driving with this light on caused me a great deal of anxiety for fear of the unknown. I like to think I am a good driver, but I couldn't live with myself if a defect of my vehicle was responsible for losing a precious passenger. Please try to review more of these cases and update the recall list. For the first documented instance, the vehicle was in a driveway and parked without a passenger. These last couple of incidences have been both parked and in motion along roadways ranging from 50-70mph.

My mother has an issue with her airbag light in her subura Impreza car off and on first time last year and she brought into Subaru and the light went off they told her next time it happens to bring in right away then she was driving last week and the light popped on again she called Subaru America headquarters about they told her it was a safety issue she and sent her in the Subaru dealer in bloomfield NJ to get a diagnostic test to see what is wrong with the car after a couple of hours of checking they said it was nothing wrong with the car but when my mom asked the lady if she got into an accident would her airbags deploy the lady responded with she is not sure it depends so they released her car without being 100% sure also, I've heard my mother complain about the seatbelt tightens up around her neck while she was driving certain things in this car is unsafe and I fear for my moms' safety and my owns when I ride in this car now because on the unclarity if the airbags are gong work or not my mom's phone automatically records so I have attached the convo so you can hear the employees uncertainty the car was sold to my mom pre-owned and I'm not sure if the car came with issues because the cars history was not provided to her, some of the issues the car has can be from whatever happened to the car before my mom owned it because my mom does not drive much so the car should not be having glitches and malfunctions they claim that the glitch in the car came from a water spill on the seat nobody spilled water in the car since my mom owned it so that is a mystery as well only two people ride in that car she's the driver and im the passenger needed you can download recording at this link https://vocaroo.com/I/S0zen2X5 [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).'

Sensor for air bag in passenger seat not working correctly. Works 80% of the time, but will put a warning on my dashboard randomly while I'm driving and disable airbag. It could happen when stationary or driving. Doesn't seem to matter the speed or if anybody is in the seat or not. It's been happening on and off for almost 3 years. Please help, the fix is very expensive and it seems like this is not the first time there have been problems with Subaru passenger side airbag sensors. The K you very much.

Air bag is disabled when moisture or humidity is present on the passenger seat. Specifically the airbag red light illuminates and the amber passenger side air bag off light illuminates. This is a problem that presented itself soon after purchase. It has happened while stationary & while driving. It has been triggered by both humidity in the air & perspiration by the passenger. I believe the problem has to do with moisture compromising the passenger seat switch. The incident has happened many times. Most recently I had left the rear window open it was humid but there was no rain, when I went to work in the morning the red airbag light was on. The problem may be getting worse over time, in the past a towel or trash bag would prevent it but no, as mentioned it is being triggered by humid air. I videoed one example and have attempted to include it but it is too large I would be glad to email it if you are interested, my daughter is in the front seat, the airbag light is on and the passenger side airbag indicator shows off. The video was taken on Sept 30th 2014, the vehicle had 35,212 miles on it at the time.
