My GTI never had any issues with brakes before, never been in a accident, I always brake ahead of time, but then all of a sudden one day the brake light, abs light and traction light came on. I took it to my favorite and only shop I go to for maintenance and they confirmed its the ABS module went bad and that there's no specific reason to why it happens and that it is just a regular part that goes bad. Now I have to replace it for $600 or I can get it fixed for $350. Come on now.. Volkswagen should own up and warranty those defective ABS modules.

ABS light on ABS light on ABS light on

One month and ten days after I bought the car, it spun out on the highway when I applied my brakes and hit a portable Amber Alert sign, knocking the whole front end off. After paying for the repairs, about 4K, I get a recall notice 3 months AFTER I bought the car warning of a recall for faulty ABS. Local VW dealer looked at it for recall. Might not cover the pump, but only fix software module, so whats the point if the whole system is not fixed? I could have been killed or someone else could have because of their crappy ABS system.

This car was part of the recall for the ABS light for this year. took it in for the recall work this monday (3/20/17) that was done, but ABS, ESP and brake lights still on on the dashboard. Dealership says replace ABS module with estimate of 1965.00. was told car was still driveable, so took it home (with all the lights still on). went to drive it yesterday and got a hard shudder/stop, so brought it home. took it out today - all those lights are still and then the EPC light came on, steering wheel (steering issue), Engine failure - workshop, and then even told us we needed gas!!! See VW chat boards with people having to replace these as early as 2011 (on a 3 year old car, really!!!!!!) So it is an ongoing problem and then there might be the issue that the recall work just caused more problems. Done ranting.

ABS light on

FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, SOLID ABS, SOLID TRACTION CONTROL, AND FLASHING "BRAKE" LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD OCCASIONALLY UPON TURNING ON THE VEHICLE, ACCOMPANIED BY 3 AUDIBLE BEEPS. THEN, THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE, EPC, STEERING, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS BEGAN TO COME ON WHILE DRIVING. ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL STAY ILLUMINATED, WHILE THE EPC, STEERING, CHECK ENGINE, AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY, ACCOMPANIED BY 3 AUDIBLE BEEPS. THE MESSAGE "ENGINE FAULT - WORKSHOP!" ALSO SHOWS UP ON THE MESSAGE DISPLAY CENTER IN THE DASH. IN ADDITION, WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL REPEATEDLY ALTERNATE BETWEEN THE ACTUAL SPEED READING AND A READING OF 0 MPH. WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER DROPS TO 0 MPH, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASE. FINALLY, THE CAR SPUTTERS AND BUCKS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY, AND STEERING FEELS A BIT STIFF. THE DEALER HAS INDICATED AN INTERNAL FAULT IN THE ABS CONTROL MODULE.

I had to stop suddenly and the ABS and traction lights came on. I turned off the car and then they remained off for the rest of the drive. The next day the lights came back on and the car started to have trouble shifting. Brought to the dealership and they replaced the ABS sensor. After picking it up the lights came back on and it is currently back at the dealership.
