- Tech Tips (Common Rail TDI ? Fuel Filter Replacement and Prime/Bleed Procedure): This document informs when replacing fuel system components on the Common Rail TDI engine (including the fuel filter), the fuel system must be primed. The procedure should be available on most models through Guided Functions. If not shown, then access through Control Module OBD. Run ?Basic Settings block 35? three times in a row. This activates the electric fuel pumps and bleeds the fuel system. Once the system has been bled, it will be necessary to start the engine and idle for a minimum of 5 minutes before depressing the gas pedal.
