I got this car straight from the dealership in 2013. It had only 3 year warranty. After that my car started messing up with the engine sensor. I had to tow it to the dealership, which cost me 1,000 to repair. After that fix, it started with doors unlocking on the road, trunk door wouldn't open all the way with key, ac broke down, wipers stop working. Basically what I bought was junk, now it's not movable and prices are ridiculous. I heard so much about recalls after I had pay out of pocket.

Over a period of time...several months, vehicle went from making a slight "whirring" sound to a loud metallic rattling sound. Drove fine, just made a lot of noise. Local transmission shop diagnosed it as failed transmission bearings. Extremely disappointing considering this is a well cared for/well maintained vehicle. Thought VW manual transmissions were fairly durable.

First I noticed a rough friction or grinding sound coming from the passenger's Front side near the floor boards where the passenger would normally have their feet rest. I mentioned it to the dealer and made a appointment. A mechanic accompanied me for a road test and then tried spraying the brakes with a cleaner...and checked wheel bearing...nope not the issue.. I returned again for another appointment about other issues and repeated a road test with different mechanic. He got what I was describing. It happens when you De-accelerate and more prominent between 10 kph and 50 kph. They checked it with a stethoscope, weight off the vehicle, and found the bearing in the Transmission housing on the output shaft was worn and drive shaft was lose and could be moved back and forth. I noticed the grinding at random and different road surfaces, more noticeable on gravel or rough surface,and crowning of the road changed how and when it would make noise. Total kilometers at this stage on vehicle was 2000.. It is in the shop as I comment on this for a new transmission and drive-shaft replacement. I noticed the engine and transmission were manufactured in Germany. Car was manufactured in Mexico. This is my First Volkswagen.. :( Guess I better not but a lotto ticket this month
