While driving home from work the vehicle suddenly stopped and stalled in the middle of the road creating an unsafe condition with regard to oncoming traffic. There were no indicator lights that the vehicle was in need of attention, the check engine light was never on, the car had sufficient oil and gas and the battery less than a year old. The vehicle had to be towed.

After having a mechanic look at it was told the engine seized and will have to be replaced. The car is only 6 years old and has less than 80k miles on it. Upon looking into the issue with 2014 VW Jettas, I have read several reports of similar instances happening to many others, some even within a year of owning the car. This is a safety hazard. When I spoke to VW of America, I was told there was a recall of the ECM (electronic control module), however they would not give me information as to whether this would cause the car to stall or to need a new engine and would not pay to have their faulty vehicle taken to the dealership via a tow.

It is not safe to drive this car! Yet NHSTA has not issued a SAFETY RECALL on this issue, VW has their "recall campaign" for an update to the control module, while similar Volkswagen models with THE SAME CONTROL MODULE ISSUES are being consider a SAFETY RECALL (NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V615000) THAT STATES "Engine Control Unit Software May Cause Stall ... An engine stall increases the risk of a crash. The engine control unit (ECU) software may cause a stall when coming to a stop". And because it is a safety hazard they will pay for cost of towing. I told VW cares that if I die in a crash driving to the dealership because it stalls, they will pay a lot more than just the towing.

2014 VW Jetta, S model. The car began to stall out as I would accelerate from a stop, then began to stall while driving. No codes being thrown to the on-board diagnostic computer. I took it to a VW dealership, a nationwide repair shop, and mobile mechanics who were looking at issues with the fuel system. I replaced the fuel pump and the purge valve, air filter, but the problem persisted. I'll save all of you a lot of time, hassle, and money - look at the crankshaft sensor. Problem resolved! Runs like a kitten!

My vehicle stalled again on me while I was driving after months without (similar) incident. (I will record the other issues seperately). This time, I was leaving a shopping center. I got in my vehicle, it started up, I was driving slowly and carefully through a parking lot with other cars behind and in front of me. Suddenly, the vehicle shut off again, no ability to steer AT ALL.

Interestingly, the battery was still on, because the radio remained on throughout. Luckily, I and the other cars around me very traveling slowly and I was able to restart the vehicle before causing an accident. I was mere feet away from pulling onto sw 88th st (Kendall Drive) which is a VERY BUSY Main Street in Miami,FL. Had the vehicle chosen to stall on Kendall drive, just moments later, I would surely have been hit as cars often travel upwards of 40 mph on that road on a daily basis. Again, I got LUCKY.

Again, I diligently took my vehicle to VW to have them address the issue. My service invoice states the following, "Vehicle was test driven multiple times and at no point did the vehicle stall while driving or at idle. No DTCS were stored. Can not duplicate customer concern at this time. Vehicle will be released to customer." Once again, my life, and those around me, were endangered and VW simply stated that they couldn't duplicate the issue, go ahead and drive it again. My vehicle is still under extended warranty and I still owe several thousand dollars on it. The vehicle is not even 5 years old and has 34,000 miles. I am scared to get back in the vehicle and risk not getting so lucky next time. I opened a case with VW Customer Care to no avail.

After several weeks of unanswered emails and phone calls, and sending in all my service reports from their dealerships, they concluded that there was nothing to be done on their end. Essentially, they have wiped their hands of the issue. I have contacted my local news agency, I am recording my incidents on here, and I will also be filing a claim with NHTSA.

PLEASE, get in touch with me if you, or someone you know, has had a similar issue with their VW JETTA 2014 or similar vehicle. It is immoral and unethical for VW to shirk their responsibility with their clearly defective product. Based on all I have read on here and other forums, I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. It is time that VW be held accountable and be forced to do the right thing! I hope that folks do not have to die for this to be accomplished, although from what I have read, crashes have been reported. Please don't feel that you are the only one, or that VW is too big to be forced to take appropriate action here. We saw what happened with the recent emissions lawsuit, and how unscrupulous they have already proven to be.

My 2014 TDI VW stalled randomly while making a left turn at an intersection in Tallahassee, FL. The steering wheel became rigid and I lost the ability to maneuver the car AT ALL. Luckily, I was able to coast on the momentum of my initial turn and land on the right side of the road safely. However, once I landed, I was simply sitting, blocking 1 of only 2 lanes and the light had changed behind me enabling all the traffic from that direction to come at me, causing a bottleneck, but luckily, no one hit me. In a panic, I called for help and someone suggested I try restarting the vehicle, and when I did, it restarted.

I subsequently took the car to the VW dealer where I was living at the time- Capital Eurocars. They checked the battery and the battery passed all test, they checked the generator, no faults. 'System passed all tests at this time.' They told me that they performed a software update, and that that should resolve the 'glitch.' Naively, I believed it must have been a glitch, as they were unable to find anything and the software had been updated, so I continued to drive my vehicle. Sadly, I was mistaken, and I was in for some more surprises. (Please see my other complaints for more information).

I financed my 2014 Jetta 1.8 SE on March 27th of 2015. Being that it's my only vehicle I started to rack up some mileage. It wasn't until 70,000 miles on the odometer that I started to experience issues. A rattling noise and randomly rough idle became present.

After starting to do research (that I wish I did before purchasing the car) it turns out VW/Audi TSI and TFSI motors are notorious for this post-2008. Almost EVERYTHING on the internet shows up as the 2.0L TSI/EA888 motor, however, it's ABSOLUTELY a problem with the 1.8L TSI EA888 Gen3 as well. Tom Wood Volkswagen of Noblesville, IN somehow failed to realize that the issues was present, conveniently all the way up until I had my vehicle inspected for the constant motor stalls and constantly fluctuating engine idle at low RPM's post-100,000 miles.

Everyday now my vehicle stalls and does not idle properly. It now affects core components including my alternator (recent within the last 3,000 miles after inspection)

Very dangerous problem with vehicle. Was on a turn and engine shut off, steering wheel locked and car kept going towards incoming traffic before stopping. Luckily nobody was coming the opposite. This issue is VERY DANGEROUS. The car engine can randomly stop any given moment and at that point you have no other control beside breaking. Hopefully nobody will be on your way. It happened few times before taking it to VW. They say is not a common issue on the Jetta. That doesn't make me feel better. I read many other reports about an identical fault, the issue is fairly common and due to the level of danger it should be a recall. Picture having your car going and no steering...it is as bad than having no brakes!

Jetta 1.6TDI 1.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 7,146 miles

When travelling longer distances the vehicle cuts out, starts jerking and looses engine power. When switching the car off and restarting, the problem disappears only to return a couple of km's further. This happens sporadically. VW had 7 opportunities to correct this without success. The vehicle was booked for 7 services to repair this problem, all in vain

Jetta GLI Edition 30 2.0t

  • Manual transmission
  • 12,000 miles

It has happened about 10 times in the span of a month. I could be doing 75mph on the highway and for a split second, the engine will skip and lose power (for literally a split second), or when I was accelerating away from a light in 2nd gear, I lost power for about 3 seconds (which is a long time when you've got people accelerating behind you and you can't move forward). Whenever it happens, no warning lights flash and it happens so fast, but never used to do this.

My mother drove a 2005 Cadillac CTS where one of the cylinders would misfire under hard acceleration and the check engine light would blink while the engine struggled. But like I said, no flashing lights in my car and it happens much quicker

Jetta SE 1.8L Turbo

  • Automatic transmission

The car has stalled about 5-6 times, the last service they said they did firmware update but it stalled again a month afterward. What happens is I loose acceleration while driving car, moves at 1-2 mikes an hour. I turn off the car and back on and it resets, I guess, but 1 time I almost got in an accident because I lost power while getting into traffic, very, very, very dangerous.
