Mass Airflow sensor in 2001 VW Passat is not cleanable, so it needs to be replaced when it goes bad. I've never had a problem with this in other makes of cars, but for my VW Passat, it seems like I need to replace it every 3 years. VW extended the warranty to 7 years for Mass Airflow to 7 years for new cars, but for existing VW owners, there is nothing we can do about it except replace it every 3 years or so. VW should recall or fix this problem.
