Hello, I am from Portugal and I have bought a Passat 2.0 TDI on November 2005 and this car has been nothing but trouble, along with a lot of others of the same series. All injectors broke down one at a time, faulty from factory as I discovered only from Internet searches, because the brand always tried to avoid responsibility. One time they replaced the gas pump, and there was a hole in it, and they made me travel 30kms back to the garage leaking 50L of gas along the way .. Now to end my final shred of reliance on VW, the oil pump breaks, and kills the engine, the turbo, and a few other components, a problem that also happened on a lot of these series. The garage wants 7000€ only for the engine. Do you know of anyone else who had the same problem and had a favorable outcome? Do you know of any lawsuits won on this issue?

A search of the internet and I found that this is a common problem, the oil pump is chain driven. As any kid with a bicycle will tell you, chains stretch, wear out etc...why did VW in the "German Engineering excellence" use a chain to drive such a fundamental engine component? Compounding the problem is that their work shop manuals do not mention scheduled replacement....

A second question I have is what if this fails while on the hwy and your engine seizes due to lack of oil....leaves you stuck in the fast lane.....this is a major safety concern....if you own one of these VWs change the stupid oil pump immediately for the new European only gear driven pump....why were the European cars fitted with the gear pump....so few tdis sold in North America I believe VW decided that lawsuits / warrant claims would be very low....
