When asked VW about it, they state have to replace entire headlight assembly, over $500 and to install cost is more than $1000. Apparently there is a short and they have no idea where or how to fix other than unit replacement.

This was not the worst of our problems with this car but it was annoying. The headlight would randomly go on and off. This was some sort of wiring issue, among many.
