Passat 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,717 miles

Had oil change done in Nov.2022 mileage 84,400. On Jan. 2023, mileage was 86,717, I brought my car to the dealership, for other work to be completed I asked them to check the fluids. I saw that they listed misc.- topped off 1 quart of oil no leaks seen.

I called next day and spoke to service dept. I wasn't clear about their response which was that VW cars burn 1 quart of oil for every 1200 miles- an outsider said that's ridiculous. I decided to make another call to the service department and asked to speak to Service employee by name.

Joey told me between now and your next oil change check the oil when I get fuel, that way the car is on even ground and the engine will be hot because that is when your oil should be checked. If I need oil, go inside to the store and buy a quart and put it in. He also stated that when I call in for my next oil change in May, let them know that you want to schedule a diagnostic check in case it's required because of the oil I needed to add. That way they will allocate time for it.

Regarding the 1200 miles I never really got an answer for that statement. I just couldn't believe it.

Any suggestions- I would love to hear them. If it has happened to you, what was your outcome? Buying a new car isn't in the cards for now.

Passat Wolfsburg 1.8L T

  • Automatic transmission
  • 127,200 miles

The problem was fixed at 127,200 miles. But the issues started popping up around 100,000 miles. EPC and Check Engine Lights came on. Oil was burning (checked exhaust pipe and saw lots of soot) although no black or blue smoke was coming out that was noticeable. Had to continually add 1.0 L of oil every 600 miles. It is recommended to never follow VW's recommendation of oil change every 10,000 miles for this 1.8L T engine. Stay on 6,000 mile schedule and you should be able to see prolonged life on your engine.

Passat SE 1.8L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

As of a couple months ago, I realized my 2014 VW Passat 2000 miles after an oil change that the oil level was low and not just a little, it took about three quarts of oil to get it back to where it needed to be. Since then after every fill up I’m having to add half a quart. Now there is an awful ticking of the pistons because the quality of oil is being destroyed (burnt). Causing a full oil change to have to be done, until a month later when I get to restart this process. Multiple VW mechanics have told me of class actions involving this oil consumption issue, along with the fix for this issue being a whole new engine. Looking for any other possible information involving class action with others experiencing this issue.
