Passat Wolfsburg 1.8L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,600 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I purchased this vehicle thinking that it was reliable.

I towed it into a certified VW dealership/repair center for a rough idle, and after the car shut down on me on an expressway.

They told me that it was a timing chain issue, at under 75K miles.

I have a lifetime warranty for the engine, but the $3K claim for the timing chain is denied because they wanted oil changes every 6k miles. When I was sold the car, I was told to get an oil change every 10K miles for this vehicle. I also checked VWs recommendation, and they recommend an oil change every 10K miles.

This is absolutely ridiculous that I’m having a timing chain issue with this car. I’m aware of class action lawsuits in effect for other VW models for timing chains. I think the 2014 Passat Wolfsburg model also has defective timing chain issues and should be included in a lawsuit.

Please help in any way. I can’t afford to replace this timing chain, and I’m getting screwed over by this warranty company.

Passat TSI 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,000 miles

Volkswagen dealer expect my daughter to pay over $5300.00 in repairs on a car she bought less than 1 year ago used with 59,000 miles. They said if she continues to drive she will need a complete engine. The engine started hesitating one week after she purchased it. Originally I thought it was fuel injector problem. The problem got worse and eventually, I took to an foreign car shop whom said since there wasn't any check lights he would reset computer. That date after he reset computer 8 codes came up. He was shocked at the codes and advised me to take to Volkswagen dealership. After they tested computer they found numerous codes including power train items. The timing essential requires replacing. The bill to repair is astounding.
