At the last oil change, the mechanic noticed that the oil was noticeably low, and recommended that the engine be cleaned with an additive that would help clean the crankcase sludge. $150 dollars later and 4000 kms, I rotated the oil and it was ok. I use full synthetic oil, at 8000 km's I'll go back to double check.

Then he drew attention to the coolant that was low and attested that it was recommended to clean the cooling system. But there's a recall for this problem. This week the car is going to the VW dealership to change the 2 control arm bushings under the warranty. The car has 90,000kms at this point...

Passat Wolfsburg Edition 1.8L Turbocharged

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

I have a 2015 Volkswagen Passat Wolfsburg Edition 1.8L Turbocharged vehicle and it just burns oil like mad. I have found the oil light coming on every 2-3 weeks to add oil to the vehicle and even more in the summer when it is hot outside. I have had it checked by 2 mechanics and the dealership and they have found no leaks, problems with the seals or gaskets or anything. Also there have been no leaks or any sign of oil under the vehicle or signs of it splashing out anywhere on the engine, and mechanics agreed. Just highly annoying how often I have to add oil to this vehicle and have heard this vehicle just burns oil very quickly. Gets pricy doing this all the time especially when it takes full synthetic motor oil.

Passat 1.8L T

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,000 miles

Excessive oil use. I started noticing some usage 6 months ago, and now I have to carry a gallon of oil with me in the trunk, and add a quart each fillup. VW continues to pollute by leaking oil. Dealer service said they all burn lots of oil starting at 65,000 - it's the rings on the pistons. I guess the metal wears out and allows leakage.

I change the oil between 6,000 and 7,500 miles. VW recommends 10,000 miles. The engine would be ruined if you waited that long.

I have never owned a car that needed oil added after 1,000 to 1,200 miles. The car has 90,000 miles and I have had 11 oil changes. I have receipts for every service since the car was purchased new.

Passat SE 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

This car has started to burn oil like crazy, there are no oil leaks in the garage. It is going through about 1 quart every 800 miles, that is obscene for a newer vehicle. It never went through oil in the past until about 40,000 miles or so and now it is constantly needing a quart of oil. One tech I talked to said that VW considers this a normal amount of oil used and after looking in the manual, it shows that they indicate something along the lines of a quart every 1-2000 miles is normal - never had even my oldest original beater (which leaked oil) go through this much (expensive!) oil so somebody is full of it big time.

Maybe some environmentalist organizations need to hear about this because it cannot be good for that much oil to be burned and go into the air all the time, multiplied by the number of vehicles VW has on the road. What was their recent history of test/emission results regarding diesel engines and some sort of program, etc?!? They must want more negative publicity as that one must not have cost enough to get the point across.

This is our first and last VW (or any make they build or have a hand in building).

I bought the car with just under 30k on it from a dealership. It came with the factory warranty left, and then a 2 yr CPO extended warranty. After a year or so the engine oil light came on and I checked it on the dipstick and it was a quart low. Ok, understandable, it was 2 k away from an oil change and my old TDI was the same way. So I added a Qt and had it changed by 10k then it was good for awhile. Took it in for the 50K suggested maintenance. Then after awhile the engine oil light came back on, again low....added a QT. It now has 83K on it and is using close to a Qt a week!!!! I brought it to the dealership and was told that the oil usage they came up with and my complaint is within the specified oil usage. The service tech suggested that I change it every 5K as oils break down and 10K is a bit long. I said VW recommends every 10K, he said yes but in his own opinion that is too long. I cannot believe this is "Normal Usage" I will be filing a complaint with VW America customer service.

Passat SE 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

Back in November of 19 my Passat started giving me the oil light telling me that I was low. When this happens I am about a quart low. So I have no oil on my garage floor and if I leave the car running in one place it does not leak. Had oil changed and had them look for leaks and they could not find any but they updated the computer etc to see if it will help. So December, January, February, and March I have added over

8 quarts of oil about 2 quarts a month the dealership has looked at it again and found a small leak on a top seal and is scheduled to be replaced but the technicians tell me that they don't think that's the problem. Now I'm looking for a different car because I feel I cant trust the Volkswagen brand anymore.

Passat SE 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

I took car to dealer, they said the plug was bad and that should fix the problem. Two weeks later. Same issue.

It's a 2015 VW Passat, no way I should be adding oil every couple of weeks because they said that these types of engines burn that much oil. Need a better solution.

Thanks

Edgar
