Routan SEL 4.0L

I've only had this Routan for 3-4 years and I can tell you this is the WORSE vehicle I've ever owned. My wife called and said something is extremely wrong with the car. There is a ton of smoke coming out the tail pipe when you start it. I know that means $$$$ in most situations. I checked to make sure that it wasn't a cracked head and it wasn't. It was oil burning off into our exhaust system. I replaced the PCV valve just hoping and wishing that this might be the problem...but it wasn't. I knew then it was either leaking at a valve stem seal or piston rings. Well after talking to my mechanic about it he said he has had a lot of problems with heads on these vehicle and suggested that we change the entire head but also said isn't probably worth it because it would be another $1000 per head. So everything that I've had go wrong with the vehicle: 1.) Would lose power and lights would shut off - Almost killed us coming around the corner at one point. Getting a batter seemed to fix this issue. $120 2.) Won't start every now and then. Not too big of an issue didn't get it fixed. 3.) Passenger side window stopped working. Didn't fix it just made it so you couldn't put it down. $100 4.) Back seats won't go up and down. Never fixed it. We didn't need them to much. 5.) Overheating. Had to replace radiator once and heater hoses twice. $650 6.) Engine mounts kept getting busted. $600 5.) Transmission wouldn't shift. Solenoid issue. $1000 6.) Engine had oil leaking out of tail pipe. $2000

Routan LS 3.9lV6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 71,000 miles

THE VAN LOOKS GOOD, DRIVES GOOD BUT DRINKS OIL LIKE A 1950 CHEVY WITH 300K MILES. THE OIL USE ISN'T CONSISTENT.

SOME TIMES ON A TRIP IT DOESN'T USE MUCH THE NEXT TRIP, SAME DISTANCE, IT WILL USE 2 QTS WITH 71000 MILES. I SURE WAS EXPECTING MORE OUT OF A VOLKSWAGEN. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. ALL IN ALL I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH V.W. I'M 68 YEARS OLD AND HOPED THIS WOULD BE MY LAST CAR. I GUESS I BETTER HOPE I DON'T LIVE TOO MUCH LONGER.
