2002 Volvo S60 2.4T model. Picked up my car from an authorized Volvo repair center for routine maintenance and was advised that I needed a new gear box. This gear box runs at a cost of $2,000 with about 4 or 5 hours of labor at $400. The car has only 77,000 miles on it and I strongly believe that it is premature for this part to fail. I have searched the internet references on the topic and find it to be somewhat widespread. I would appreciate some feedback on the issue as I plan to address Volvo corporate for a resolution.
