My fiance went out to the vehicle which was parked to retrieve an item she left in it. Upon her sitting down in the driver seat, mind you the engine was not on nor was the key in the ignition, the side airbag deployed striking the left side of her face. The force stunned her for a few seconds, leaving her confused on what had happened. Her hearing was also affected. She went to the emergency room to get checked out where it was concluded that she suffered a scratched cornea due to the powder released from the airbag, as well as her aqueous radius humor of her eye was knocked out of balance from the force of the deployment.
I was in an accident in my 2000 Volvo S70 in which the car was totaled. The driver's side airbag did not deploy. The passenger side airbag did deploy. Although, I was not seriously injured, I would like to report that the driver's side airbag did not deploy at any time during the accident.
