Our VX90, purchased over 10 years ago, with 250K miles has had several problems over the years.

1) the previously-discussed A/C issue where water leaks into the car, floods the floors and dampens the dash. Finally fixed it out of state (we live in CA). The dealer could NEVER figure it out at all.

2) the recently-discussed engine failure while driving. This car has lots of miles but its been maintained very well. This engine failure issue is dangerous. I'm not throwing a bunch more money at this but I see its been recalled.

Our local Volvo dealer closed years ago which may be why we don't get any information updates from Volvo-never have in fact. Thoughts? Thanks MR

XC90 2.5 AWD 2.5L I5

  • Automatic transmission
  • 104,000 miles

Low compression (90 PSI) in cylinder 4 at 104K miles. Driveability is OK but gas mileage takes a hit. Quoted around $3,000 to repair or $1,500 to swap a used engine. Told by mechanic it was likely caused by lack of maintenance to the PCV Flame Trap by previous owner.
