CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 XC90 got a facelift -- the good kind, not the "hollywood" kind -- and has so far not had the same transmission problems that a few owners of previous model years have complained about.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Volvo XC90 uses "drum in hat" parking brake design for rear wheels of vehicle. Whether engaged or not, the friction (lining) material for the parking brake can separate catastrophically from the shoe and lodge against the inside of the drum, causing one or both of the rear wheels to lock up, driveline damage, loss of control of the vehicle and/or braking component damage. Upon inquiry to dealer (secor Volvo of new london, Connecticut), this problem is known to dealer and/or Volvo.
