Ford Recalls Super Duty Trucks For Lurching Backward
Error in transmission software can cause trucks to lurch backward when shifting to drive.

— Ford is recalling almost 4,000 model year 2015 super duty trucks for transmission problems. Ford says the recalled trucks are the F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550, all manufactured September 13, 2013, through March 28, 2014.

The trucks are equipped with 6.2L gasoline or 6.7L diesel engines and 6R140 transmissions. It's those transmissions that are the problem because of faulty transmission control software that can cause the trucks to lurch backward when shifting from park to drive.

Ford discovered the defect at its Kentucky plant and opened an internal investigation. Engineers found shifting from park to drive could indicate the trucks were in drive on the gear shifter, but the trucks would engage reverse gear for 1.5 seconds during shifting.

Ford dealers will update the transmission software once the recall starts this month. Owners of the affected trucks can contact Ford at 800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14C04.
