Ford Recalls 55,000 F-150 Trucks and Transit Wagons
Ford recalls F-150 trucks with airbags that can fail, and Transit wagons with seat belts that fail.

— Ford has announced two recalls involving about 55,000 wagons and trucks, all 2015-2016 models.

Ford Transit

About 51,500 model year 2015-2016 Ford Transit wagons need their rear seat belt buckles fixed after Ford learned the seat belt buckles can be damaged by items placed in the seats.

The automaker says placing heavy objects on top of the buckle can cause the latch to fail, leaving an occupant unrestrained in a crash.

The recalled Transit wagons were built in Kansas City from February 13, 2014, through January 13, 2016. Ford says 48,990 of the Transit wagons are in the U.S., 1,781 are in Canada and 699 are located in Mexico.

Ford says there haven't been any accidents or injuries related to the seat belt buckles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't released details of the recall and Ford hasn't said when dealers will begin replacing the seat belt buckles.

Ford F-150

A separate recall includes 3,700 F-150 trucks that have airbags that can fail in a crash. The recalled 2016 Ford F-150 trucks are equipped with multi-contour front passenger seats with a massage function.

Ford says the front passenger airbag can fail while an adult is in the seat because the occupant classification system classifies the adult as a child. The automaker says the problem occurs if the massage function is activated, something dealers will fix by updating the occupant classification system module software.

Although the problem can leave a front passenger unprotected in a crash, the automaker says it's unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the defect.

About 2,894 F-150 trucks are located in the U.S., 503 trucks are in Mexico and 286 are in Canada, all built in Michigan between April 27, 2015, and November 22, 2015.

The recall is expected to begin March 7, 2016. Owners may contact Ford at 866-436-7332 and use recall number 16S05.
