Pulling out of a parking lot (5mph); saw oncoming vehicle and put on the brakes to avoid guiding into the street. Brakes failed, collision between Tundra truck and Focus. Focus front bumper pulled completely off and damage to the hood. Other car damage to passenger side, extensive. This bumps up our insurance costs..
We had the Focus repaired at a Ford facility at a $2,634 cost. Two weeks later, backing into the garage, brakes failed again and the Focus hit the back of the garage. Minor damage to home. Also, the brakes squeak intermittently, but were told there was nothing wrong.
I've read the complaints on National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (nhtsa.gov) and apparently there is nothing that can be done about this brake problem. That's SCARY!
We are unique. We saved for 8 years and purchased, for cash, a new 1994 Ford Ranger pickup (still have this "Lone Ranger") and than saved another 10 years to purchase the 2004 Ford Focus.
We have contemplating buying a new F100, but since Ford does not deem it necessary to find how to repair the brake problem on the Focus (and recently problems on the F100), we will be forced to look elsewhere.
We have been a Ford Family for decades, but now we are just disappointed in Ford.
