CarComplaints.com Notes: Even though the first model year of a major redesign should typically be avoided, Ford did a good job & the 2008 Ford Focus doesn't appear to have any major defects.

That said, the following model years of this 2nd generation Focus (2009-2011) do appear to be slightly better.

This is the 3rd door that wont latch. I fixed the other two times because of no recall !! There is a recall about this issue , but not on the 2008 . This year needs to be recalled as well! Could be very dangerous if the door flies open going down the highway!!!!

Focus SE 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 113,000 miles

I just bought this car used and the check engine light came on within 24 hours. The temperature sensor was not in the car and the dealer fixed it for us for free. Within 3 days of having the car the back passenger side door will not open. When you press the automatic door lock it does not go up or down. My 4 year old son has to sit on that side, and my 2 year old sits behind the driver. If there is an accident my 4 year old would be trapped! The dealer will not replace for fix this issue even though it has been less than a week, and told us to use pliers. This is a huge safty issue and I don't know where to turn for help.

2008 Ford Focus SE- Sedan - 2.0L , automatic - Vapor Silver --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our 2008 Ford Focus had this happen once this winter and now in April 2014.

I got out of the car and went to the shut the door and BAM!!!!!!!!! I thought the door broke.

I realized the door wouldn't shut. It won't close and its the latch area inside the car (stripped some black paint off the latch too)

So i noticed down on the door the little "C" shaped opening or lever that moved was in the closed position and didn't open properly to go around the latch.

I am guessing lubrication might help ...but I am worried this is going to be an ongoing thing.

The first time it happened was in the winter on a brutally cold day and the wife was stuck in the parking lot with the wind going at a good clip and unable to shut the door...after trying to move that "C" clip lever and getting grease all over her hands....she was finally able to close the door.

I of course thought she was crazy until i experienced the same first hand.
