CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Ford Focus & its "Powershift" transmission has a defect trend where the car shudders when accelerating, especially when starting uphill.

Most owners have reported their Ford Focus remains driveable while the vehicle is still at low mileage, but the shuddering is annoying & unpleasant & may reduce the resale value of the vehicle.

However, owners of higher-mileage vehicles from earlier 3rd generation Focus model years report transmission failure & a host of other major & expensive transmission-related problems. Potential buyers beware.

Hello, my name is [xxx]. I am emailing you because I have a big problem/concern. My car had a recall on something in the transmission. So in April of 2019 I took my car to the shop at carmen Ford in newcastle, de where I purchased my car from. When I took it there the check engine light for the recall had came on and it was jerking. They claim they fixed it. Well in the beginning of December 2019 my check engine light came on with the same code and was jerking again. I took it back to carmen Ford. They had my car three weeks and they said all they had to do was reset two things that weren't matching up. The same day I picked it up I had to take it back because it was still jerking. They had my car two in a half more weeks than called me and said that 4 techs drove my car and they had no problem and it wasn't jerking. So I went up there again on January 13,2020 and did a ride test with bill who at this time had noticed the jerking my car was doing that I was talking about. We turned around and went back to carmen Ford where he said he will let the techs no it's jerking now. Two days later he called me and said the tech did a shutter test and it's normal. He said that sometimes Ford cars do the jerking and that it is normal. I explained to them it has only done it these two times that my check engine light came on with this recall thing. He said there is nothing else to do and my car was ready for pick up. I picked up my car on Friday, January 15,2020. When I picked it up it was making a louder noise than had been, still jerking very bad and now will not reverse. I called the service shop at carmen Ford Saturday morning January 16,2020@ 10:30am and they basically blew me off. This is my only vehicle and I have two young children than I have to drive with in that car and I don't feel it is safe and they are refusing to fix anything but keep telling me it's fine. Parked the car, turned motor off, smelled smoke, release inside hood, more smoke coming from under hood, could not open hood up, flames started shooting out, called 911 who called fire department, several small explosions before fire department, whole front car engulfed in flames. Vehicle just turned 21000 miles, H.ad not been driven for a car since I had 2 surgeries for fractured feet and just started driving several weeks ago. Did damage to my sons motor home and driveway. Vehicle had been garage kept since new and no maintenance performed on vehicle other than 1 recall which dealer took care of it in 2/2020. Luckly no one hurt. Vehicle was stationary and just shut off when incident occurred. Can get photos from my daughter-in-law as I didn't take any at the time. Vehicle has been declared a total loss.

While driving my car the center display which has my odometer and digital speed as well as any warnings for my car showed lines across it and it is difficult to read. In researching it I found this is a common occurrence with these cars and it will eventually go completely black and not work at all.

My daughter was driving my car and it just stopped. We had to have the car towed. We had the mechanic come to the house. The car started right up. We went ahead and had the battery checked. The battery was fine. A week later and on a continuous basis we've tried to start the car and it doesn't start at all. The same message continues to appear starting system fault.

Driver statement = on my way home from work at approximately 03:00(am) I was driving the gov traveling westbound on 72nd avenue past the intersection of pierce street. I noticed the cabin of the car starting to fill with smoke, then I noticed a small flame under the hood of the car. So then I immediately pulled over got out of the car and called 911. When the arvada police arrived on the scene, they had a small fire extinguisher which they tried to extinguish the fire. Shortly after that the arvada fire department arrived and put the fire out. No one was injured and there was not any property damage other than the gov.

Went into a store, parked in parking spot, came out, got in car, placed car in reverse to back out of spot, car began to back up, then slowed down and stopped with engine still on, . I then placed car in drive, went forward, then attempted to back out again, car backed up, then slowed down again, then jerked really hard. After waiting for the cars parked on the right and left side of me to leave, I placed car in reverse again, it stopped again, I placed car in drive, car accelerated slowly, then gave a hard jerk again, and I was able to drive forward and make a complete circle, and drive forward out of the parking spot a half a mile home. Upon entering my driveway, car began to accelerate and stopped when I applied the brakes immediately. The car sat for 24hrs, I then tried to start it up, it started up, but when I placed it into reverse, it did not move at all.

I was driving on the highway going 60 and my steering wheel locked up and an alert popped up on my dash saying 'driver assist fault. Repair required', it went away after about 30 minutes but it has happened once again since then and the first occurrence only happened yesterday. And as well to that my transmission which is a 6 speed is stiff and sticks a lot where I can't change gears immediately.

I literally just bought the car with the shuddering when coming off of a complete stop and was told it was my tires. I have gotten all new tires and it is the same problem not solved. Then my car started to have a bigger problem with the radio one day out of no where my speakers started to be staticky. The next day it was static and very loud popping noise almost making me get into an accident on the highway because it is so loud. I have to pull over every 10 minutes and shut the car off with most of the time the noise still going with the car off. Now I cannot see anything on my radio screen other than the date and time with a black screen. I have the radio and screen off and this loud popping / static noise is unsafe till this day. Due to the problem I cannot drive my car anymore. There has been many complaints online and in person about it but nothing is done.

When idling for so long the car just died. I opened the door and the alarm went haywire. Then I have to wait 20 to 30 minutes before I can restart the car. Nothing will work after it does this until it's able to be restarted. It's been at the Ford dealership. They replaced transmission issue, said that should fix it, but it still keeps on.

Recall #19N08. The car has what recall letter says is "a judder or shudder on light acceleration from a stop or during shift events"; although mine is not 'light'. several times upon entering a main street from a side street the car shudder's so badly I almost get hit. When driving on a turnpike, I accelerate, and it shudders. At a stop, it shakes & shudders for 3 or 4 car lengths. It's not safe & it's gotten worse since I got the car. Matthew's Ford in broken arrow, ok says I do not have a clean title and when I called the Oklahoma commission dmv office, they say the title is 'branded'. what does that mean? and, one of them said that the warranty had been cancelled, therefore there can be no recall work done on the vehicle. There are some extenuating circumstances surrounding this car. The dealership lied to me about the financing (hurting my credit and finances) and we ended up in a lawsuit, which was settled. I would hope that the dealership would not do anything mean to hurt me further. During the lawsuit they had provided me with a title, but it was not notarized properly, and I couldn't get a tag for almost 9 months. When we settled, I received a green title exactly like I had on other cars...so I don't know what is wrong with it that hinders me from a recall repair. I'm 74 and have bought a lot of cars and the title looks exactly the same as the others, no notations or stamps on it or anything. I even looked on car-fax and talked to the previous owner (a female college student) before agreeing to purchase the car. There was only 32,000 miles on it when I first looked at it December 17, 2018. Just remembered...the salesman sneaked in a "tire & wheel warranty" for $1,600. I cancelled it, but had nothing to do with mechanical part of car and warranty place sent money back to the dealership, which they kept.

I have gotten my car to the dealer for the various recalls and my car still is unsafe five separate instances my car has slowed to near stopping and three of those instances where on a major highway with children in the car of those three times I've been lucky that I have stayed and continued to drive on the right near the emergency lane. This car is unsafe to drive I have the same instance and every recall is supposed to be a solution to the problem. I've taken it to the dealer to check on it and everything appears to be working properly until it's time to drive and it continues to stall and stop. I've made a complaint before regarding this vehicle. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and there is still no solution to the issue that can end up costing lives. This car needs to be recalled due to its unsafe condition yet the company refuses to take accountability for this serious safety issue.

Ford issued a recall for my Ford Focus because there's an issue with the vehicle's clutch. Everything was supposed to be covered with no expense to me. Upon delivering the car to a Ford dealership I was told that I would be charged $145 for them to run a diagnostic check to locate the severity of the issue to my clutch. If the results come back showing the clutch to be the issue then the fee would be waived, but if it turns out to be another issue then I'd be found liable for the charge. In this instance because there's a recall that has been issued by Ford, I do not feel that I should be getting charged just to have them look over the vehicle.
