My car developed an extremely loud, high-pitched whistling noise from the engine area (similar to a tea kettle sound). It would only happen after the engine was warmed up. It would go away temporarily when the gas pedal was pressed when accelerating, but would quickly come back when coasting or cruising. I couldn’t drown it out even with the stereo cranked to 11. It was so loud that people would point and cover their ears as I approached, despite me trying to play it off like it was the car beside me making the noise.
I took the car to my dealer, and luckily the car made the noise for them. They isolated it to a particular engine valve. The changed the valve (400 bucks later) only to have the noise come back again. They then changed the air intake manifold (800 bucks in total), which did the trick. Not especially pleased with how much it cost to get rid of the noise, but it was truly not something I could live with.
