Honda 2002 CR-V. I noticed a SLIGHT RATTLING NOISE coming from rear end of car after going over a bumpy section of road, It would go quiet again after driving on smooth road. Now it is a heavy rattling and knocking sound after a bumpy section but still goes quiet when back on smooth section of road. I now also hear a mechanical grinding noise for a short spell when stopped after the bumpy road. This too goes away driving on smooth road.
Had the mounts checked checked around rear differential, four need to be replaced. Had the differential fluids flushed and replaced with proper Honda fluid, just had rear brakes and rotors replaced including one caliper. Still noise is bad from rear end
Update from Aug 29, 2017: I finally discovered I had two issues that caused all this noise. First one was the folded up table that fits as the floor in the rear end cargo area. Mine was a little small and didn't fit properly in the square area so it slid around and caused banging noises. I stuck around the inside edges of the square fitting some furniture leg cushions and then stuffed some rope around the outside edges to stop the table from sliding side to side. First problem fixed.
Secondly,I had a tow hitch attached to my car. Turns out the muffler would constantly rattle against a bolt that was sticking out from the tow hitch. Previous owner had removed one of the hangers for the muffler so it wouldn't sit so tight against the tow hitch and when I reattached it, all this metallic banging noise then started. Didn't need the tow hitch so i removed it and haven't had any noise from this area since
