The steering wheel locks and I cannot continue steering to make a turn. The stirring wheel returns

to its original position before I can reattempt making a turn.

CR-V EX-L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 96,000 miles

Power steering locked up when pulling out of driveway. The indicator light briefly came on. Steering was fine and then about 1 mile later it happened again. No power or ability to steer the car safely. I immediately came home as this was a huge accident waiting to happen. Super dangerous. This car is well maintained. There was no warning.

I was driving less than 20 mph, the power steering failed on two occasions with my 2012 Honda CRV. It became very difficult to turn the wheel and the power steering indicator light was on, and the only thing I could really do is stop in the middle of the street.

After few minutes the lock freed and was able to steer the car. The same thing happened again today morning. I took it to my mechanic and had it checked. They contacted me indicating it could have something to do with the battery connection so they checked/replaced the grounding wire to the battery and also checked all of the connections.

I previously had problems with the battery about 15 months and had a new installed.

Having steering failure is obviously a very serious safety issue, which I am very concerned about. I am scared of driving it at high speeds or on busy streets as the EPS failure makes it impossible to steer the car.

CR-V 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission

Bought this car brand new and all was just wonderful in the land of new things> THEN it happened...while pulling out of a parking lot into traffic the steering wheel locked up ( NO POWER STEERING) I jiggled the wheel and it cleared but only for a little while. It continues to lock up even while driving at low speeds ( 15-25 residential streets).

I took it to the dealer and they checked everything out but could not find the problem or give any suggestions of what it could be. I was told the computer in the car that records any and all malfunctions doesn't have anything to report concerning this problem. Was told the tech drove it around and nothing out of the ordinary happened. I drove it home and the next day it happened again. Now it is becoming a regular thing and I just know It will cause me to have an accident someday ( hopefully I won't be the cause of a death).

I have been looking for recalls on this problem but so far HONDA doesn't seem to believe their is a problem. Has anyone here had this problem ? Today I pulled into a parking lot and started to turn into a stall while turning to the right it locked, man handled the wheel to the left it locked again....HELP!!!...I do have one consolation, I have a report from Honda Tech that according to their computerized report ALL IS WELL IN THE LAND OF HONDA.....BS

Update from May 22, 2017: P.S...I put one to many zeros in my information section of the form my car has only 9000 miles on it and the steering is locking up
