Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety. Notes: When it comes to the 2006 Ion, the biggest questions are: what big problem is going to pop up next? And how long until GM chooses to address it?

The 2006 Ion has a defective ignition switch that gave owners fits. Their keys would get stuck in the ignition, the engine wouldn’t shut off or in some cases it would shut off at the most dangerous time. The ignition was eventually recalled as part of one of the largest recalls of all-time , but it took GM 10 years to do it. Then there’s this car’s temperamental power steering which is prone to stop working randomly while driving. It too was eventually recalled, even if GM took their sweet time about it.

Lastly, it turns out a car built with plastic doors, fenders and bumpers – while fun for a game of “shopping cart bocce” – is horrible for safety.

I purchased my vehicle in Apr 2013 from a used dealer. Shortly after my purchase I began to experience an issue with my vehicle going into reduced power mode, thus degrading the power that the engine was able to put out affecting my ability to accelerate. After over a year of taking my vehicle to different shops to be repaired, it was determined that my vehicle has a technical service bulletin for the ECM. GM released a series of ECM serial / part numbers that were know to be an issue, and that was also in the tsb. I am unclear on how GM is able to narrow this issue down to a specific series of serial / part numbers but they have not issued a recall or special consideration on this part. This defective part is most definitely a safety issue as I stated above it prevents the vehicle from accelerating in the manner that it should.

Was driving at a slow speed off an off ramp when my car felt like it stalled and it turned off which I thought it was another cat who hit me because there was no other explanation at the time. It set me in a spin and the car hit the wall but the air bag didn't go off. I ended up in the hospital with an injured back and head. Could it have been the faulty ignition? my car kept stalling after the body repair. I took the car into the dealership in dumber of the same year and my car was diagnosed with a faulty ignition switch. This is not the only incident but thankfully I was just injured and I still have my life.

On August 19,2014 there was an incident that involved me with my 2006 Saturn Ion. I was proceeding out of to drive off when all of the sudden my power steering became hard to maneuver and seen as though the car was shutting off in which a child was running across the street at that time I did the best I could and my car bump my neighbor vehicle. I received a strained muscle in my hand that my doctor diagnosed as carpal tunnel syndrome (nerve damages). My car have done this several times. I shouldn't have T I die nor my son or have a life permanent injury that would hinder me from enjoying my life. GM told congress that they would do the right thing by its victims regardless the nature of injury.I have to suffer with this agonizing pain and swelling with the aid of medication. Nasa I expect you to do the right thing hold them liable for putting these faulty knowing these car was not safe for consumer purchase. First issue started with the numbers of the clock/stereo flickering after a couple of hours of the car being off during the winter. Then during the summer there were a couple incidents when the windows would not roll down nor up until a couples minutes after the car being on. A couple months later I rolled the driver side window 5 inches down while driving and 15 minutes later the window went up about an inch and did not budge but would make a buzzing sound. After a day or two there was not a buzzing sound and all the other windows did not work. Took in my vehicle to be checked and was told that it is an electrical issue coming from the main computer (motherboard I assume). This happened in February of 2014 and have not gotten it fixed.

My Saturn was at the dealer for the GM ignition recall. The dealer told me my fuel lines were rotted and leaking. I thought this odd since the car was at the mechanic's for a rusted exhaust the week before. I called my mechanic from the dealer and he said to bring the car back that day. He found the leaking lines. Total cost of repairs $567.42 since all GM parts were purchased. The dealer had to have known to look for this problem, leading me to believe it's a known issue.

About two years ago I started experiencing problems with the ignition switch on my 2006 Saturn Ion 2. the key would get stuck in there, or be hard to put it in all the way before starting the car. At times the engine would stay on even after key was out and all the instrument cluster lights would all come on even when the engine was off. Suddenly my instrument cluster stopped working all together (all gauges dead) with the exception of the warning lights. They would always stay on even when car was off and key was out. Later, just as sudden the cluster worked fine again, only to die a month later leaving all warning lights always on again. While all this was happening I was still having issues with the ignition. Mechanic told me that the ignition switch was causing the cluster to malfunction and eventually burned it out. Because of financial issues I was unable to replace the switch or the cluster at the time. When I received the ignition switch recall letter, I took it to get replaced and explained the cluster situation but dealership refused to replace the cluster and said it was a different issue. For months I have not been able to tell how much gas I have, how fast I'm driving or the temperature of the car. It's frustrating and expensive to repair. I have stayed stranded on the highway with my children several times, but GM will not help resolve the electrical issue.

I went to start my car to go to work and the key would not move in the ignition. Not one millimeter. I checked that the wheels were straight, checked that it was in park. Still no movement. Meaning I was not able to move the key forward or backward. After trying at the minimum 15 times, I called triple a and then my husband. He told me to cancel triple a and contact the dealer and have them deal with it. As it was only 7:15 and I had to wait until the dealer opened at 9:00. I sat and kept trying to get the key to move. Around 8:00 it just suddenly moved forward and the car started. I guess I am filing this complaint because GM installed that whole ignition part thing on my car about 2 months ago. I'm afraid to call them because what could I say? the car starts fine now. But I don't see how I can have any piece of mind worrying that this might occur at any time or anyplace. I have also been waiting for 2 months for a safety recall part(safety recall#14115) for power steering that may suddenly be loss. I have called GM several times to request a rental or loaner vehicle and have been told that I am safe in the car and if I am "going fast" I am "safer". I am extremely nervous that I could be involved in a crash or worse and drive the car everyday with a feeling of dread.

When my car first started cutting itself off while driving on the interstate or roads, R when turning key to turn car off, the key wouldn't turn car off. You can remove the key but car is still on. The doors will not unlock till the starter switch locks itself into off. You can put car into park and key will not turn off. I strongly feel that this goes along with the problem of the key turning car off while you are driving. That recall was done but we still have the problem of not being able to turn car off with the key. If you remove the key car is still on, this is a problem as sometimes you can not sit there waiting on car to shut off and this worries me as to safety.
