Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

CarComplaints.com Notes: Beware of the NHTSA complaint data for the 2004 Camry. It is almost certainly misleading.

The problem with NHTSA data for the 2004 Camry is that for months on end, the news media repeatedly told the public that several Toyota models had an unintended acceleration defect, & to go to safercar.gov (the NHTSA's website) to file a complaint.

So, the NHTSA received a disproportionate number of complaints about unintended acceleration issues because of the national news media attention, to the point where their data is unreliable taken in context with any other vehicle that did not receive national news attention.

CarComplaints.com typically receives more complaints per day about vehicles than the NHTSA does, but the news media did not repeatedly say "go to CarComplaints.com to report your Camry acceleration problems" like they did about the NHTSA -- so although we have less complaint data than the NHTSA for the 2004 Camry, our data for the Camry is a far more statistically accurate representation of the Camry's reliability than what the NHTSA data shows.

I was traveling at a rate of 30 mph and failed to stop at a traffic light hitting an equinox. My Toyota Camry airbag did not deploy and I have multiple chest wall injuries from hitting the steering wheel. Both airbags deployed in the equinox.

Noticed slight swelling of the passenger side airbag over a period of a few months. Appeared that the upper seam of the cover was widening. Yesterday when driving home noticed it appeared larger than usual. Upon getting home too a picture, as the airbag seam had begun to split and can see a red foam like substance through the split. Called local Toyota dealership and individual I spoke with was vague, had never heard of anything similar or any airbag recalls with Toyota. Seemed distracted and rushed, although it was about an hour til their official closing time. Proceeded to call Toyota customer service. Spoke with a very nice agent who searched for recalls based on my VIN number. She came up with no recalls but expressed similar concerns as myself of the airbag deploying and causing injury or accident. She assigned me a case number but advised me to have it looked at at a Toyota dealership. After researching online, it seems like a problem that many have noted...same description and very similar pictures.

Off light for passenger air bag stays on. It was reset a year ago and within three months went back on. The mechanics said that the seat occupancy sensor needs to be replaced which for part he quoted $431.50 and with labor would cost total of $640. Is there a recall for this. The car is U around 95,000 miles and it needs robe fixed for my car inspection?

Dash airbag light came on and the passenger air bag sensor showed off even through someone was in the seat. First the dealer tried to reset system, but two days later light came back on. Took to dealer second time and they had trouble finding issue at first. Issue traced to airbag switch under back seat. Learned that while light is on entire airbag system fails. Dangerous situation and surprised by lack of redundancy in such an important system. Cost of repair seems very excessive at $1,000 for a sensor, but have little choice. I realize that the car is ~10 years old, but failure of this component seem very premature. Car is in very good condition with no excess wear or subject to abuse.

.......just need to ask a question, in light of the stories on air bag, the light on my dashboard says..."passenger air bag off"......I called Toyota and they asked if I were nearby and could I come in when I called (about 4 pm).... I said I was nearby and drove directly there (67th western, Chicago. One of the tech's looked at the light and said "oh that light will go off when some one sits in the passenger seat ( knew it wouldn't)....he immediately went to the passenger side, sat down and the light didn't go off.....then he said oh, ur airbag light is on (behind the steering wheel). He then said since ur car is not on the re-call list, we have to conduct an inspection..about $110 dollars, and then if we find something, the $110 will be applied to the charges. I said like what, he said it might be a sensor, it might be something else we don't know until we inspect it............................so, my question to you is how do you know that 2004 Camry's are not included, and whether or not, Toyota just wants to charge me for something that they should have covered.... secondly, 2 items on your recall list, I don't believe were done a) NHTSA #11V539000, Nov. 9, 2011..........................and B)NHTSA#04V346000, July 13, 2004.......................thank you for your assistance and advice.

On July 6th I notice passenger side air bag on my Toyota Camry 2004 model is crack about 6 inches and look like it going to explore I'm extremely concern about this because I do not want anyone to get hurt especially when it can be avoid. I contact Toyota they told me to take to the dealer for an evaluation. I'm fearful because some time my daughter sits in the passenger side of this car and do not want her to get hurt. Toyota told me that there is no recall for this problem. Toyota also told me that the car is old and they might not be responsible to fix...I am a confuse by their respond because this is a manufacture problem not the customer. I can send picture, please let me know how I can do that. My husband will take the car to the dealer on July 8th please contact me with the process to repair.
