CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

ABS light and BRAKE light come on, speedometer goes to zero and tachometer flutters wildly, Called Toyota Customer Service today. PLEASE, if you are also having this issue, please call and file a complaint! The only way Toyota is going to recognize this issue is if we report it. 1-800-331-4331. Taking it in to my mechanic tomorrow for estimate and will follow-up with getting estimate from dealership. Will update this post as information is available.

My brake light and ABS light lit up on the dashboard, and the tachometer gauge went crazy. I had it towed to the dealer because the owners manual said to quit driving it. This is going to cost me around $2,000 to get the ABS actuator replaced. My car has about 78,000 miles on it. I bought it new and have had it for 9.5 years. I always got it serviced regularly. I don't understand why Toyota extended the warranty on the 2007 Camry Hybrid but NOT on the regular Camry. If the ABS actuator is guaranteed for 10 years or 150,000 miles on a Hybrid, it should be guaranteed for that long on a non-hybrid!

I have this 2007 camry for roughly 4 years, I bought an used one at 2012 (Mileage 96K) each year the problem keeps multiplying

1. Car had vibration, replaced the engine mounts 2. Car was sucking engine oil very fast, now I may have to check and topup engine oil every 15days 3. Car is having ABS and Brake Light ON 4. Melting Dashboard

This car is poorly designed and constructed, when spoke to toyota they say it is maintenance issue. They are almost deaf on our complaints, Is there a way that we can file a lawsuit against them, so that they will understand to maintain basic standards before releasing the car to Market.

I made a big mistake by buying this scrap. Can we form a group and go against them so that they can consider this as recall..

My brake light started coming on and the gauges would start hopping around. The air would go warm when this happened. It would come and go, lasting longer as time went on. Then the abs light joined in. Now they stay on. My mechanic unplugged it and now everything works except the speedometer and odometer. I plugged in a GPS so I would have my speed. I would think if the hybrid has the same thing and it's a recall the rest of the camry should qualify. It seems to be a widespread occurence.

This seems to be an on going common issue w/ the 2007 Camry. Both my ABS and brake indicators remain on causing the AC to malfunction (shut off and or blow hot air) I've contacted both the dealer and the Toyota complaint center and they state this is not a known issue. I encourage everyone to spread the word and call Toyota as well and report this issue so that we can get a recall/warranty going. Their number is 1-800-331-4331. You're going to need your VIN so that they can log it correctly. Tell everyone you know. This is the first step needed to get the ball rolling. WWW.TOYOTA.COM/RECALL allows you to see current recalls.

This particular model and year is riddled with problems. First the melting dashboard, which I have learned has affected multiple Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Then the excessive oil consumption problem, which will burn up your engine along with your pocket. Now the worst has been the ABS and brake light illuminated simultaneously while driving and the speedometer reading "0" while driving. I have taken this car to multiple mechanics and they cannot figure out what the problem is, and why the car is doing this. All of these problems combined have made me think twice about considering another Toyota vehicle ever again. I am very upset with the unanimous vote that this car is a BIG problem child and take the advice from this site and "avoid like the plague"!!!!!

The short circuiting of the ABS Actuator has hit me too. This happened on 03/17/2016 to my 2007 Camry LE.

It first came up when I was waiting at a red light. The ABS and brake light came up and even when the car started moving, the speedometer wasn't moving.

I took the vehicle to the service center the next day and was told that the ABS actuator was short circuiting and it is going to cost me $2500. Ofcourse I do not want to spend almost half of the car's worth on replacing this part when I won't be surprised if another part blows up.

Looks like this is a very common issue with the 2007 Camry model. I am surprised that Toyota is not extending the warranty offered to the Hybrid model to the non hybrid one. This is indeed a manufacturing issue and should be fixed. Or is it going to take a few accidents before Toyota accepts its fault.

Most people including me went for a Toyota as it is considered reliable. Well, it is clearly only a myth. The car has been a constant pain. This is perhaps the most unreliable car I have ever come across.

My ABS light and BRAKE light came on while driving down the road and then all of my gauges went crazy. It has a little more than usual vibration when at a stand still. I goggled this and I am shocked at how many 2007 Camry vehicles that this is happening to. My mechanic can't figure out what is wrong with it. It is so crazy how many issues that I keep having with this vehicle.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM OTHER HAVE MENTIONED: "THE BRAKE AND ABS INDICATOR LIGHTS TURN ON, GAUGES SUCH AS SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER AND HEAT/COLD GO CRAZY PLUS THE AIR CONDITIONER TURNS TO HOT AIR". THE REPAIR COST IS RIDICULOUSLY HIGH, WHEN YOU SEE THE CAR VAULE, IT IS UNDER 8000 DOLLARS. IF THE SOLUTION IS TO GET A NEW CAR. THEN IT IS TIME TO CHANGE TO A NEW TRADE MARK OF CAR.

My 2007 Camry just showing up last week around November 7th and I read all the problems in this page mostly the same as mine...

brake light came on, AC is down, only air and not cold... sometimes back to normal sometimes brake light came on again...other electrical indicator also did the same such as key not detected, gauge up and down, etc. The mechanic told me to replace the abs modular and it cost me around $2000 exclude the service charge.

WOW!!! That is soooo expensive to me..it's really annoying...we decide to check the car to another mechanic and still in the car repair now and not yet sure found the problems...my question is... are those electrical issues refers to the abs modular?? really needs to be replaced? once it is replaced, does electrical thing back to normal??

What causes it? Is it because the car-age more than 5 year??? Any comment from the Toyota regarding this issues??

Please anyone help to give me more info.....Thanks a lot.

On a 2007 Toyota Camry if your abs light and brake light on and your speedometer gauge temperature gauge and other gauges start to jump ,then you need to change your ABS module. If you do not, it will shut down your main computer on your 2007 Toyota Camry and your brake system will go out and car will shut down while driving over time

Camry LE 2.4L

The cost of the actuator is about a 10% of the cost of the car. There is not a recall, but for the Camry Hybrid 2007,with this same problem they accepted to offer a 10 year guarantee or 150K miles until 2017. But not for my car. The cost to repair in a local Toyota dealer is $2,251.44. I understand that it is the same problem of the Hybrid in my car.

If somebody knows more about these, please let me know.

Camry CE 2.4L

I have a 2007 Toyota Camry CE my ABS light and bright light came on. All my gauges started jumping up and down. My air conditioner went out. My alternator stops charging. It was shutting down my main computer in my car, which in return is making my car shut down while driving. The problem for this is called the ABS modulator. It shorts out and is very dangerous. It costs around 2,200 dollars to have fixed. When absolutely pump modular is unplugged, alternator starts charging and a/c works and tack gauges work, but car is still unsafe until fixed right. My car shut down on hwy 85 yesterday and almost hit by a tractor trailer. Once somebody dies it will be to late to say they should have fixed it

The dashboard meters stopped working while on the highway. The cooling system went off and the break and ABS light came on. Moment later, the gauges became erratic bouncing up and down. Some minutes later it normalizes. The problem repeated itself severally. At a point, the steering wheel became stiff and I had to park. I observed the steering hydraulics in the reservoir had moved pass the high mark (It was about 3mm below the high mark before taking the car out ). I found out from several online forum that a lot of people had experienced this problem without a solution. Toyota needs to issue a recall.
