Wife complained of A/C not working. Noticed underside of engine covered in some kind of fluid, but not engine oil or transmission fluid. My go-to Independent shop said a high pressure a/c line ruptured and leaked all the fluid out. Repair bill notes - "FIXED A/C: REPLACED TWO DISCHARGE PIPES AND RECHARGED A/C". Total costs - $700+. Mechanic noted that a h/p line was rubbing against something and over time caused a crack. I consider this a defect in manufacturing or design or both. This is a mark down on MDX reliability. This is not the first time the a/c went bad. Previously, couple of years back, the a/c had failed due to a bad A/C Compressor Clutch Relay, which, fortunately was a cheap fix after some internet search.

On a 95 degree day I noticed my AC not working very well. I got out and noticed a smell of refrigerant coming from the engine bay. Then noticed "smoke" coming from the engine bay. Upon investigation found that the lower portion of the high pressure line that comes out of the compressor rubs on a grounding point, and after years finally sprung a leak.
