I would drive 30 mph and then car would stall and all lights and speedometers would go up and down and then my car would turn off as if it died. Battery is in perfect condition.

Everything running perfectly in this car, except that issue ... really annoying. Frequently stops while driving any time, any speed. Especially hot weather.

Charger R/T 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,000 miles

I started having hesitation issues when depressing the gas pedal. I took the car in to the dealership because there were no steady codes. The mechanic originally stated that he THOUGHT it was the throttle body, so I allowed him to throw a part at the problem. Once the throttle body was installed codes started to appear. The same mechanic said the PCM was bad so i said go ahead and replace it. I picked up the vehicle and I did not make it 15 miles and the hesitation was still there. I turned the car around and dropped it off at the dealership again.

This time the mechanic sent a STAR report to some engineers. They said it was the spark plugs (16 total). The plugs were the original ones and the car has 79000 miles so it made sense to me. With the plugs replaced, I again picked the car up and after driving it for 1.5 hours, 2 different trips to work, I had the problem again. I called the mechanic and he said it could be the coils as well so I ordered those and replaced those myself. The problem got even worse.

So, currently the car is back at the dealership and another mechanic looked at it yesterday. The main cause of the problem is the PCM wiring Harness is totally bare wired and shorting out... After spending $2100 some of which did not need to be spent, I wanted to post this message in case someone else is having the same issues.

Charger R/T 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 144,000 miles

After not being able to diagnose the problem of why the car stalls while driving on the highway, we were 4 hours from home and it died completely on the off ramp and would not start again. Had to be towed, in the rain on a Sunday in heavy traffic. Repair facility cannot find the problem and we are at over $500 in diagnostic charges alone with no solution. Will be starting the process to force a recall as continued research shows a high number of 2006 Dodge Charger owners are having this same issue and someone is going to get killed on the highway with this happening!
