There was no event leading to this failure, my airbag light has been continuously on for a few days, and now my horn and cruise control do not work. After researching this problem I have come across a recall for the clock-spring, which only includes 1998-2000 models. But have also read numerous complaints of it on the 2001 model as well. I have sent an email to daimler Chrysler and have not gotten a response yet. I hope it does not take a serious injury or a death to have this part of the original recall.
I have 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. The clockspring went bad. There are recall on many vehicle on previous year. The dealer told me that 2001 is not on the recall list and it will cost around $250 to repair it. It has been known the clockspring was a problem they might tried to fix the problem in 2001 model but it is not perfect. 2001 should be in the recall list.....
My 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan airbag light is on. My horn and cruise control do not work as a result. Contact Dodge via email and was told this was not a recall item for my Dodge Grand Caravan. This seems to be a "clockspring" issue. This was a issue on the 2000 Dodge Caravan- recall number 04V480000.
Airbag light comes on intermittently, particularly on turns. Talked with local Chrysler dealer and his assessment pointed to the clockspring. Researched on internet and it certainly appears there is an issue with this item. Dealer indicated it is not covered by warranties or recall and would cost in excess of $200 to replace. I believe this to be a manufacturers defect and should be replaced at no cost to the customer. No accidents or adverse effects encountered to date.
Nothing unusual leading up to this incident. The airbag light and our radio volume controls on the steering wheel for our 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan were not working. After paying $70 to diagnose the dealer told us the clockspring was not working (it was "open"). I see that the prior year (2000) of Caravan has this same problem. Dodge issued a recall with lifetime warranty as this is not supposed to happen.
My 2001 Grand Caravan 's air bag light keeps on appearing intermittently. I've had the clock spring replaced which failed to end the condition. I'm aware that if the light is on, the airbags will not deploy. I'm also aware that there was a recall campaign which ended with the 2000 models. So, I guess that a person or persons in a collision in a 2001 or greater Caravan may or may not be protected by the airbags. I've seen a lot of complaints about this and I can't believe this has not been addressed as a major safety issue. I hope it will be and that no one dies or is crippled for life as a result of a faulty airbag system!!!
The air bag light appears randomly on and off. According to my mechanic, if the light is on and there is a crash, the air bags will not deploy. I think this is a very serious issue. I had the clock spring replaced by my mechanic, and all was well for about a week and then it started all over again. Also, failure speed is random. I would like some kind of resolution to this problem. I have heard this complaint from others and have seen it on the internet as well. Please advise if possible.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. When the vehicle is started, the air bag light remains illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. He has yet to notify the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 47,000. The consumer stated the air bag light comes on intermittently when making a turn. Updated 12/13/07
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. The airbag lights are illiminating randomly. The mechanic stated that the air bags would not deploy in a crash if the light is illuminated. The mechanic replaced the clock springs, but this did not solve the problem. The failure and current mileage were 85,100.
: the contact stated the vehicle's airbag clockspring failed. The service dealer and manufacturere were contacted. There was a NHTSA recall # 04V480000 regarding airbags. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.
The contact stated the air bag light has been illuminating intermittently since 2003. The contact noticed the light illuminates once the vehicle has heated up. The vehicle was taken to the dealership on July 1, 2003 but they were unable to duplicate the problem therefore no repairs were made. On December 27, 2004 the vehicle was taken back to the dealership while the light was illuminated. The dealership replaced a failed clock spring but the repair was unsuccessful.
Airbag light keeps coming on & off intermittently along with warning bell. Took to dealership. Dealer said driver squibb circuit open & they replaced the clockspring assembly.
I currently own a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan-sport edition. The vehicle had an airbag clock spring replaced when the vehicle had about 25,000 miles. Today the vehicle has 48,600 miles on it. The airbag light has come on once again just like the first time the clock spring failed. When the vehicle is in warm weather the light goes off. This has happened several times in the last few weeks. I have contacted the dealer that repaired it, I have been told that there is no current recall for this problem. I have been able to find a recall for model years 1998-2000 that describes the same issue with the clock spring. I feel that the problem was not corrected for this model year as well. Can you please investigate this similar problem?
After starting the vehicle air bag warning light stayed illuminated until the vehicle was shut off. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.....also, right side sliding door was hard to open manually. Dealer determined that door motor needed to be replaced.
After the consumer started the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. The warning light stayed lit until the vehicle was shut off. The air bag light was intermittent.
