I own a 1996 Dodge inrepid with 61,255 miles on it as of today ( 1/16/2003). This vehicle has had three failuers of the water pump at a cost to repaire of $500 each time to repaire. I have also had the front suspension fail, which cost $1185 to repaire. This vehicle is not driven hard, mileage will show maybe 10,000 miles per year. I feel by the number of complaints on your system that the manufacture has had more than normal number of complaints for both these problems. I think a recall is called for, and some sort of remibrusment for the cost of repaires made. All my repaires where done by a Goodyear facility or dealership.
I have owned the Dodge for almost 2 years, this is the second waterpump that I have had to replace. The first was covered under my 3/36000 mi warrentee. The same thing happened this time. The water pump seesed, which in turn took out my timing belt, also took out a few other components. I contacted the company they told me that there was nothing that I could do because I didn't have the car towed to there service garage. I had it towed to my machanic. I was also told that this is not the first time that this has happened to this kind of car. My machinic said that he has seen other Dodge intriped with the same problem.
Water pump failed causing timing belt to need to be replaced. This is very expensive and very inconvenient. There have been a lot of reports on the failure of the water pump in the 96 Dodge Intrepid and this problem needs to be addressed by the company! vehicle overheated on interstate both times causing smoke to pour from vehicle.

We have had three fuel rail problems they were all covered under recall notice. I dont think that it should have to be corrected that many times. The water pump went out a few weeks after we bought it dealer repaired it. The steering rack went out 2 weeks after we bought it dealer replaced. The tie rod bolts came out 6months of steering was replaced. Dealer replaced. There stillis a problem with transmission and the lines. Also with the oil sending unit. I think this car is a real lemon. How many major components of a car can fail there are a few more that I have not reported on this form lower intake gasket tie rod bolts. I think the company should buy back this car because there are too many major problems with it for only being 5 years old.
This vehicle has had a failure in every major system. The timing belt failed which led to the damage to the water pump. The power steering pump developed a leak and had to be replaced. There is no excuse for a car to have these kind of mechanical failures in such a short period of time.
The water pump failed on the highway, causing engine to overheat so bad the engine had to be replaced, all the while the temperature gauge stayed in the normal range.
There was a leakage within the water pump. Consumer had water pump replaced twice, and water pump is leaking again. And dealer states that the problem is coming from the engine too.
Tie rods are defective, causing steering to become loose, resulting in loss of control. 2. a leak from water pump is dripping onto timing belt, possibly stretching the belt, and ruining engine. Also, dealer has replaced rack and pinion steering.
I had to have my car towed to our local garage because of the water pump went. From what the garage mechanic told me was that it was leaking for a while with out being noticed. In turn, because of the leak it ruined the timing belt which also had to be replaced along with the water pump. My mechanic told me that it is highly unusual for a water pump to go on a 4 year old car with not that much mileage. This visit to the garage cost me $500.47 (parts & labor).
Water pump has been replaced 5 times because of leaking anti freeze. First pump replaced 11/96, and last pump replaced 2/99. All pumps replaced by the dealership..E.T.
