Entering highway and pushed on gas pedal hard to merge into traffic, gas throttle stayed open and car kept going faster and faster. Was going from 10 mph to 80+ mph for about 3/4 of a mile and somehow was finally able to slow car down enough to drop car into park. Engine ran hard for another 10 to 12 seconds before it disingauged from transmission. Found out that cable from gas pedal had a frayed wire and was getting stuck on the plastic housing that covers the wire. Though my life was coming to an end because I could't stop my car and it kept getting faster and faster. Thought I would have to ditch it somewhere and take a chance on making it. Reported to dealership that theree ws excessive play in steering wheel. They replaced the inner tie rod bushings in November of 1999 at a cost of $300. Sixteen thousand miles and 7 months later the same problem has occured. They say their service warranty is only 12 months or 12 thousand miles. I am now faced with another repair bill. Also my cruise control has quit working. It would cut off or pick up speed then one day just quit working totally. I dont know about the cruise control but I think there is something wrong with the front end of these Intrepids that they didnt correct when they replaced the bushings.

Intermittently while at a stop vehicle lurged forward and stalled at an intersection which almost caused a crash 2X. Dealer could not determine the cause. Dealer wants to install a "co-Pilot" so they can determine a problem.
