My Intrepid was running fine until the motor locked up with only 97,000 miles on it,the transmission worked fine,i then replaced the motor and after putting the motor in now the damn transmission gets stuck in low gear and wont shift out unless you clear the codes out or unhook the battery,it shifts fine until it warms up and when the check engine light comes on it then starts that crap,i cant even drive the car,can anyone help me out and tell me what it might be and how i can fix the problem i have a ton of money in this car.

Intrepid SE 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

I have owned lots of Chryslers and they are as good as any other. Transmission in my 2003 Intrepid will downshift at slowing down to 20 mph and will not upshift until it is restarted. It will do this 2 to 3 times in the course of a trip and not do it again until i start off on another trip. The check engine light is constant. The transmission shop has ruled out valve body and solenoid pack and told me to find a used computer which I have been searching for. This particular car only uses 1 computer. The trans computer is inside the main computer. I have not seen a web answer yet that has identified a solution to the problem but the problem seems to be pretty prevelent. My trans shifts great otherwise.

Intrepid SE 2.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 126,000 miles

Out of nowhere the engine started downshifting really hard even when I was stopped in traffic or just stopping at a stop light. Then when I'd take off again it would shift into a high gear it would just rev the rpms like crazy. I would have to pull over and turn the car off waita minute and then turn it back on. It would be fine until I tried to stop again. Stupid car...I like it when I bought it now I just wish I could drive it off a cliff except for the fact it doesn't drive at all!

I also had a 1996 intrepid with the same problem, now with this one had it changed when it had 42300 klms on it. I have now got 61220 klm on it when it hapened again when I was 50 klm from home, I had to stop some traffic to find some one with a wrench to disconnect the battery so I can drive it home without reving the hell out of the motor the dealer that repaired it before was tower chrysler in calgary in jan 30/ 2006. and now its gone again. the first time it happend the wilf was comeing home from work and scared the heck out of her and just about got hit in the tail end when she slambed the brakes on not knowing what happened. so to me that is dangerous.is there anything done about it. thanking you George Hofer cc jeanette hofer

Owner of a 2003 Dodge intrepid, the car downshifts when coming to a stop and will not upshift unless I turn the ignition off and start car again. There is no waititng period, I can just start the car immediately, then the transmission works normal and car drives and shifts fine until I slow down or stop again. The check engine light is on and I have had the computer put on it and the code it gives is "transmision" . READY TO PUT DYNOMITE UNDER THE CAR.

My engine light came on and now everytime i am coming to a stop the engine down shifts and the rpms go up and i have to turn off the car and restart. Different codes come up each time i take it in. Anybody with a suggestion other than a stick of dynamite i have already thought of that one!!
