20,000 miles on truck. Was driving approx 70mph on freeway when truck just died. All dash lights came on. Pulled truck over and turned ignition off then restarted. Truck started back up and check engine light stayed on. Was leaving for airport within 2 hours so couldn't take to shop before I left. I made 2 stops (completely turning off ignition) before I left for weekend and each time I started truck, engine light came on. Dropped off truck on following Monday evening and noticed no more engine light when I started truck. Drove to dealer with no problems. Dealer said found code in computer relating to cam sensor. Also said electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. They replaced cam sensor & etb and changed/updated computer under warranty. So far no issues...have only put about 200 miles on truck since all work performed.

Engine stalls or rough idles whiles coming to brief stops, ie stop signs or red lights. It is usually but not always when I have run the car for the first time of the day within about 5 miles or less, and seems to occur more when outside temps are low. Updated 04/19/07.

Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,500 miles
Stalling issue with 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 ext cab. Approx 2500 miles. Truck stalls intermitently while in reverse or shifting from reverse to forward. The issue has occured several times since purchasing the vehicle. The dealer has investigated two or three times. Initial investigation determined possible cause as contact issues with ignitiion swith module and it was replaced. Since then the truck has stalled two additional times and is again at the dealership for investigation into root cause. The dealer is having a difficult time determining the issue since the stalling is intermittent and cannot be easily repeated. Overall the dealer has been responsive to the issue but has not yet implemented a permanent fix.

Consumer stated that vehicle died approximately five times. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said since there are no codes on the diagnostic machine they could not do anything about it.

(1) anything, anywhere, anytime, any speed. (2) engine stall. Brakes and stearing in-operable, total control failure of vehicle. (3) flash update of the trucks computer chip, many trips into the dealer, latest advice from the dealer is they will not do anything about this issue except to note my complaint in the service file...
