My wife was driving the Fiat 500 P0P and the gear shift went out and the brakes would not work and she almost rear-ended a car but was able to get the car back home. I had to have car towed to get it fixed, plus the fuel pump went out and I had to get that replaced. Anyway, the cable had broken and had to be replaced.
