I received my vehicle in December and was experiencing problems with the drivers door from as early as I can recall. There are two issues with the car door. Firstly, when I closed the drivers door, it will suddenly open. The second problem is that sometimes as soon as I am driving off the door will open, even if it was shut properly. This happens occasionally.

I reported this to my lease company who arranged for the car to be taken in. The car was brought to the garage in February and I was advised that there was a problem with the locking mechanism and it seemed that when the car is navigating, it may be a factor linked to the door opening, so the Ford garage arranged for the locks to be changed and I thought that would be the issue resolved.

The problem ceased for some time but then started recurring. I was reluctant to call this in due to my previous bad experience with the customer service team. So I drove the vehicle reluctantly but felt I did not have a choice. In December 2019, just 1 year old, I was driving home from work, and as soon as I was about to drive off, the car door opened and that really scared me. I then decided that it was time to report this. I called my leasing company and they sent out an emergency recovery vehicle to take the car in. Of course the issue could not be resolved on the spot, and the mechanic who attended confirmed to Ford that based on his assessment he thinks that there is a problem with the door latch as there was a rattling sound. He stated that this may be a factor contributing to the door opening on occasions.

Now because there is no predictions of when exactly this fault occurs ford have stated that they cannot replicate the fault and I need to collect the vehicle. This does not provide me with a solution as I am really scared to drive the vehicle as the door can open at anytime. I am really furious about this and really love the car as it is such an easy drive. However, I do not feel safe driving the car.

I am seeking legal advice on my position as I do not feel safe driving the vehicle, nor feel that I should be penalized with an early termination fee by the lease company. There was problems from the onset that I feel was never really resolved and it put me and my kids at risk. I do not feel that Ford or the lease company is listening or taking my concerns seriously. I have even suggested having a replacement for the same vehicle, but not my exact vehicle, as I have lost trust in my vehicle.
