My truck was blowing antifreeze out of the Degas reservoir tank intermittently. This occurred when I was hauling a load or when the air conditioner was on. I took the truck to Donley Ford dealership in Ashland Ohio and they had my truck for 3 weeks trying to figure out what the problem was. They contacted Ford and had their technician evaluate the problem and they concluded that it was a problem with the thermostats so they changed the thermostats and sent me on my way. Of course this did not fix the problem and the next long hauling trip that I took the exact same thing happened. I use the truck infrequently and so it was a year and 5000 miles later when the problem occurred again. This time the dealer told me that they contacted Ford and that ford informed them that it was a blown head gasket. Since the problem was never fixed and occurred when it was under warranty I thought that Ford would take care of it since it clearly occurred when the truck was under warranty when I took it to the dealer the first time. But NO, Ford and the dealer refused to fix the problem stating that my warranty had now expired! Needless to say I will not purchase another vehicle from Ford since they weasel out of taking care of problems that clearly occur during warranty. I researched the ford 6.4 liter diesel engines on the internet and there are all sort of complaints about head gasket problems and there should really be a recall on them. There are after market fixes for this problem but it ended up costing $6000.00 to get the problem fixed. The diesel mechanic who fixed my truck knew what the problem was immediately when I told him what was happening and stated that it was a common problem with this engine model and that Ford is surely aware of them. What a bunch of weasels. They know about these problems and they play out the warranty before they tell you what the real problem is with your vehicle in order to avoid fixing their messed up engine under warranty at their expense. Lesson learned. I will never buy a Ford product again.
