Mustang GT 4.6L V8

The first instance of "limp mode" came while I was driving home on the freeway in commute traffic. It was warm, traffic was erratic stop-and-go, and I had the AC on. After a period of coasting at idle, traffic opened up; but when I tried to accelerate the car staggered and nearly stalled. I thought it was due to heat and the AC. The car then jerked forward before running smoothly again.

The second time, I was on my way to work, again in freeway commute traffic. Traffic was at a stop for several minutes, and then I heard a news report that there were accidents ahead. I moved over to the 4th lane of 5, in preparation for exiting at the next off ramp. When I tried to pull out and speed up into that lane, the car again staggered and then stalled; I managed to re-start it and get moving again as a truck came racing towards me, with the driver hitting his brakes and horn. I barely avoided a crash.

So I've read about people having the similar problem in the 2006 V6 or GT: The wrench light would come on and the "limp mode" would take over. Now usually turning the car off and back on again would fix the problem and wouldn't happen until a week later or so later. One thing I notice is that if I was in traffic, then when finally I got into the open road it would start. Since the 1st time it happened, i would always drive on the shoulder in case needed to pull over.

BUT WAIT!!! this doesn't sound to bad, not until the car started to shut off on me while driving! Yes, while driving! The wrench light would come on, limp mode for a second, then shut off. After doing research on it, I changed the throttle body completely, including the sensor. Even though the sensor was the only thing that the engine light indicated. Why change the whole thing?? Well, because I spent $70 on the sensor and the problem still persisted. I changed the whole thing ($330 at AutoZone) myself using YouTube, now my car is fine.

BUT TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING, AND IT HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE almost causing accidents. All I have to say 2006 is the worst Mustang year as car-complaints clearly proves. NEVER BUYING A FORD again. MUST RECALL THE THROTTLE BODY /SENSOR

limp mode light comes on often and half cylinders cut out

Ford struggles at reliability. They have designed a warning into their cars called Limp Home Mode. Something happens within the motor, transmission, computers or whatever and the warnign light comes on and half my cylinders don't fire. They say it is because this keeps you from really damaging the car. But when I have taken it to the dealer or service center...they throw on the computer and get no readings. WTF? Do I have to live with this for the rest of my days?
