problem #4

Thunderbird

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

The door locks quit working. Have to get in and pull passenger handle on the inside to open passenger door since there is no keyed entry on passenger door. Then, passenger window won't go down. Now radio volume and tuner work using different buttons and now cruise doesn't work.

Ford should buy these cars back for the known issues they have. I know now that my local Ford dealer has misinformed me of the problems saying they haven't heard of these issues.

Thunderbird 3.9L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,000 miles

Replaced all 8 ignition coils, spark plugs, and valve cover gasket (oil in plug holes) because engine missed, check engine light on, A/C shut down periodically.

Now, the cruise control and horn do not work, and the steering wheel radio buttons malfunction, i.e., pressing vol- increases the volume and pressing vol+ causes radio station to change and then go to CD.

This restates same problem experienced by 47 other TBird owners. Do Ford engineers have a solution to this problem?? Please respond with correct fix and explanation as to why this occurs. Am currently working the problem.

(From: a POed aerospace manufacturing engineer)

P.S. Have previously changed ignition coils and plugs on a 1996 Mercedes 320SL with no adverse after effects to other systems. Maybe Ford needs to learn from Daimler/Benz.

Thunderbird Convertible 3.9 liter

  • Automatic transmission
  • 26,500 miles

th..is is a low mileage car-started off with the drivers window would not go up and down, which made the door not close properly, the wipers go on by themselves, inside trunk release not working, passenger air bag light stays on,engine oil light flashes, etc.

took into Ford certified tech to find out the computer modular is the problem..

No parts available in the U.S.-on back order /car is not safe to drive/may take up to 2 months to get part--yes 2 months , so far has been 3 weeks.

I feel this should be on Fords recall list-the part is around $550.00 plus labor. Car only has 30,000 miles on it.
