Windstar 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

I asked the seller at Ford to completely service the van before I would buy it. He said his mechanic would. I checked the van out two weeks later, low on oil, no brake fluid, trans fluid very low, no water hardly at all in receiver, then the starter went out, replaced it no good, replaced switch, no good, brakes gone out, can't keep fluid in systems, engine light came on, emission problems, mechanic stalls for the hour amount, and still can't fix/test II code. Inside lights dim when extra. Lights come on. It's a [xxx] piece of junk and they sold us a lemon. I paid over $4,000 cash for it, and all they wanted to so was sell it for money. What can I do" it has 72,000 etc mile and now has 82,000. We are both disabled with two kids. We have been screwed. I can get the Ford info on the Ford Windstar 95 3.8 it rattles, water runs out of the exhaust pipe and the converter. I want to sue them, I called them and they said the hell with you, you bought it as it was. Ford products are the worst auto's on the market. We want revenge and all our money back now. [xxx]. what is next a head gasket" I heard that cost over $1,600 to fix. And there are alot of them going out. Ford needs to stand behind it's products or get out of the business. I have had my kids tossed to the dash when I step on the brakes before we even get out of our drive way. We wear seatbelts, I wouldn't dare ride in it. It is a death trap to me. Key can be removed from ignition without completely shutting off ignition. Consumer was told lock cylinder was a wearable part. A small child was able to move shift mechanism out of park, allowing vehicle to roll. Another child was stuck in the process. Owner was aware of other van with same problem.

The numerous failures on Ford transmissions are because they used aluminum instead of steel in a high pressure area, it will probably take a class action suit just like the head gaskets and the ignitions.

When going to use the van one day, there was no reverse. All the forward gears worked. The reverse clutch drum had a crack in it and the whole transmission had to be rebuilt. When going to use the van on another day, it would not start. Both of these problems occurred with less than 50,000 miles on the vehicle with total costs of $1378.88 and $341.41.

This is the continuation of problems with a highly problematic vehicle. 5 years, 90,000 miles have replaced so far: Head gaskets, rear suspension twice, front suspension, ignition wires, O2 sensors twice, and now injector and fuel pump. Over $3,000 in out of pocked expenses over what was covered on extended warrantee. Vehicle is not reliable and am looking to trade in on anything other than a Ford! at Ford, quality is job none!

This vehicle has had problem from the day we purchased. Most recently, it is currently at dlrship for service due to engine overheating, just short of van catching fire. Prior to this, we had to replace the transmission (approx. 1 1/2- 2yrs. Ago). At this point, we are truly concerned about the safety of this vehicle even after repair.
